trouble getting grayscale or black and white option with mac and C4280

I installed the C4280 All-in-one several months ago.  In using it with the Mac Leopard system, I could never find an option for color settings when I needed to print.  My husband recently installed from the same cd on his Windows machine and had all kinds of printer settings to choose from.  I went to the hp site this morning and installed the latest software and drivers for the mac--no luck.  Any ideas on what I need to do to have printing options (including double sided, color vs. black and white, etc...)

Re: trouble getting grayscale or black and white option with mac and C4280

I have experienced exactly the same problem using a Deskjet 5740. Interestingly, after I first installed the driver from the printer install CD on my newly acquired MacBook Pro, the printer dialog did have the expected options to select color or grayscale for the printed output. Later on I visited the HP site to look for any updates for the printer driver, and read the instructions (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01234224&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=357202&os=219&lang=en) saying the driver to be used was the one coming with Mac OS 10.5. So I switched the driver to this one, and since then, gone are the printing options giving the possibility to print in grayscale. What's going on?

Re: trouble getting grayscale or black and white option with mac and C4280

Hello,

this morning I ran the Software Update utility on my MacBook, which installed the most recent OS update, namely MacOS 10.5.7. Among the many things this update introduces are fixes to printer drivers, according to the Apple web site. Well, I am happy to report that after this OS update, all driver options for printing in grayscale etc. are now back. Let's just hope it'll stay this way!
