Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Over the past few weeks my audio system shows as not being there (msg over speaker icon and red X) - when I check through the control panel it says the driver for Conexant ISST Audio) is working OK. I roll-back to the previous driver - restart - still dorsn't work; then update driver and restart and it is back. This work around keeps me going, but it seems to happen randomly a couple of times a week on a start-up or restart, and it is driving me crazy.

Anyone able to help?

Hello@BJE_Spain,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel.

Audio driver goes missing frequently. Did I get it, right?

I believe the issue could be due to the drivers not getting installed. I recommend you to try eth steps below and check if that solves the issue.

  • Start Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Device Manager.
  • Expand the node that represents the Sound, Game, and Gam Controllers, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
  • On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
  • When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

Hope this answers the question. Please let me know more.

Hi - thanks for the response, but I obviously didn't make this clear. I don't want to uninstall my sound system. The problem is that the sound system stops working - I get a red X on the speaker icon and if I hover it tells my no sound system is installed. I check the driver through the windows control panel and it says it is there and operating correctly. The only way I have found to resolve this is to use driver entry in the control panel to  'roll-back to previous version' - I then restart (sound still not working) - go back to the control panel and  'update driver' - restart again - and then everything is back working normally until it happens again. It seems to happen randomly; I can't see any pattern to it.

Any further toughts?

Hey@BJE_Spain,

Thanks for the response.

While uninstalling the driver, you will get a confirmation box for deleting it.

That way the Corrupted audio driver, which is a previous version will be removed completely and then restart the PC.

After restarting the PC update the driver which will definitely work fine.

Happy posting a great day ahead.

Hope this helps. Please share for more assistance.
