Hi all,

Had anyone tried finding drivers for Conexant smart audio. I've looked at lenovo and dell websites. Although found one at lenovo website but it's not for the one HP skylake i5 version that I've got.

I'll look harder... But if you find please let me know
Cheers

"One important thing I forgot to mention is: *Make sure you don't open the DTS control panel after these steps.*"

Thanks Lewis, great sleuthing. I think that perhaps the reason I had success is due to the multiple drivers I tried.

I know that clicking the enhancements checkbox on and off multiple times caused no difference in the sound.

When I did my fix, I couldn't launch the DTS control panel from Windows Control Panel or the app shortcut. I discovered that I could open the control panel .EXE file that comes with the drivers.

This makes me think that perhaps the separately stored .EXE (i.e. not in \Windows) wasn't 'connecting' to the driver and THAT is why the checkbox on/off state wasn't affecting the enhancements.

So, I propose installing the Dell drivers, then deleting the control panel .EXE and .CPL files. Be aware they may be in multiple locations. (\Windows, \Program Files and \Program Files (x86) )
Better still - remove them from the installer before running it. (This is easiest done by unpacking Dell's .EXE driver package with soemthing like 7zip. Navigate the folders and delete the appropriate files.)
I'll have to test this later when I have more time.

Nice! Progress!! 🙂

Great news!  I just got off the phone with HP and was told that HP has given up on trying to fix the Realtek driver and will instead replace the mainboard of affected models with a mainboard that has a Conexant DAC (which doesn't have crackling issues and also keeps track of separate volumes for headphones and speakers).  I'm a bit disappointed because I know the Realtek driver could be patched to fix both of those issues if HP really wanted to, but this is a nice consolation.  Best of luck!

Hi,

I had a very similar problem with static noise on HP 840. .

and I can't believe Realtek actually fixed the trash jack sound with the latest driver, after like more than 1 year:

version  6.0.1.7960 (or later)

If you have or do not need Intel Management and Security uninstall it, as it interferes.

Install the new driver. Then set audio to 24 bit in audio, advanced settings.

Also update to the latest version of Intel Wireless driver, from their website.

Hope this helps.

Note: it doesn't remove the static noise completely, but greatly reduce it.

Realtek released version 6.0.1.8036 (R2.81) of their audio drivers on their web site back in mid-January 2017.   You guys could try updating to those drivers instead of the ones provided by HP and Microsoft.

Also, one BIG annoyance with Windows 10 is the automatic device driver updating.

Visit any or all of the following sites on preventing or reducing the chances of Windows 10 automatically downloading & installing any driver update:
