I had my laptop connected to my TV with the HDMI and everything/sound worked fine. I disconnected the TV/HDMI and now I don't have sound on my laptop. I went to Device Manager>Sound, Video, Game Controlers to update drivers. The Intel(R) Display Audio is fine. The IDT High Deinition Audio CODEC is the issue. I Updated the driver and got this message (Windows found driver for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it). A device attached to the system is not functioning. I

Hi @robertr58,
Welcome to HP Forums! I have read your post and wanted ot help.
I understand that you could not update the audio driver, and there was no sound after you disconnected the HDMI cable from TV. In order to better assist you, can you provide the product number of your laptop?

Hi @robertr58,
Thank you for the reply!
I checked that there is no Windows 10 driver for your laptop on HP support page.
Please try uninstall the audio driver from your device manager and click the "Action" button on the top of the windows. Select "Scan for Hardware Change". It should reinstall the audio driver.
Restart the laptop. Let me know if it helps to fix the problem.
If this helps you to reach a solution, please click the "Accept as Solution" button down below in this message. If you wish to say "thanks" for my effort to help, click the "thumbs up" to give me Kudos. :catvery-happy:

I've unistalled and tried to install the driver numerous times and still get this message
(Windows found driver for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it).
IDT High Definition Audio Codec
(A device attached to the system is not functioning)
My thought is the computer still thinks the (device attached -TV) is still connected to it...
