Welcome to the HP community. A Good day to you. I read the post regarding audio issues with the headset. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description and very smart diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. You are an important HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. I also take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.
- When did this happen? Did it occur after a windows or software update? Do you remember?
- Have you tried a different headset to isolate the issue?
- Do you hear sound from the speakers?
- Has it ever worked before? Please provide the complete model# of the unit to assist you better.
For now please try these steps.
Please check with a different headset by connecting it to the audio port.
Please check if the speakers work correctly. If the speakers work correctly the audio port on the computer may be faulty.
If the speakers work correctly and a different headset does not work, please try all the steps from this linkhttp://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04973149
If this does not work, then please try all the prescribed steps from this link: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/Playba
