Pavilion 13-a110dx
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello there,

I have an HP Pavilion 13-a110dx that won't start up. We configured it with our operating system and other software, but at some point the BIOS (or EFI, not sure which) reset to default and now it's asking for a password I never set. When attempting to enter a password enough times, it says "System Disabled" and returns the code 52953088.

Thanks,

clee

Thank you kindly. Is there any way to make sure this never happens again? I appreciate your speedy reply, but it's kind of untenable in a business environment to lose control of a machine.

[Edit:] Found it, under BIOS setup -> System Configuration -> Secure Boot -> Set to Disabled. At least I think that's it. Turns off the hash check that freaks out if the CMOS gets reset. Hope that keeps it from happening again!

Hi,

You're welcome :generic:

It's difficult to say what occassionally triggers this issue and I've never actually seen it re-occur on the same machine.  Entering the code from my previous post should have removed the requirement for a power on password, but to be certain, shutdown and then srart the machine - if it does still prompt for the code, you can remove this as follows.

Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to access the Start-up menu and then select f10 to enter the Bios menu.  Use the arrow keys to highlight the Security tab and hit enter.  Use the arrow keys again to highlight power on password and hit enter.  Enter the current password ( use the code in my previous post ) and then for the new password, just leave this blank and hit enter - do the same for the confirmation field.  Press f10, select to save the new settings and hit enter.

I have a similar issue. In my case I set an administrator password (that is, the password is only to enter the EFI setup utility), then later entered the incorrect password 3 times. From above, I gather this means the password has been reset by the EFI firmware.

The code displayed is 59703296 on a HP Envy Touchsmart 15. Since the password is only for the EFI setup utility, I am able to boot the laptop (in case this affects whether whatever utility you are using works).
