HP Elitebook 8470p
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello.

I have several HP 8470p laptops that have the same problem. When pressing the power button, they will turn on, then before BIOS loads, immediately shut back down. I can hear the fans turn on and off with the laptops. Every rare once in a while, they will stay on, but they will never get to BIOS, just a black screen (it doesn't appear to light up).

I've tried swapping batteries and A/C adapters/chargers with other 8470p's that are known to work, and since this model is dockable I've tried docking them on several docks know to work with working 8470p's, but nothing.

I've done the "pull out battery, unplug charger, and press the power button for 10 seconds" trick to drain the power from the board capacitors, but still the same symptoms.

Sadly, I am about a month out of my extended warranty with HP on these laptops, so the repairs are on me since the company I work for won't pay labor for anyone else to fix them (though I might be authorized to buy replacement parts if needed).

My guess is there is something going on with the motherboard? Has anyone else had this problem or can send me in the right direction? Thank you.
