HP Laptop, doens't start first time, starts randomly

Product Name: Pavilion g6
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have an HP Pavilion g6 notebook, currently running Windows 8.1. It often doesn't start up when I press the power key. It goes to the HP laoding screen with the dots going round, but from there nothing happens. I try again and the same thing happens. Eventually on another startup it says 'Preparing Repair' and then I have to use a system restore to get it working again. Why does this keep on happening? How can I prevent it from happening?

Any help would be very much appreciated

Thanks

BobbyMarvin

Re: HP Laptop, doens't start first time, starts randomly

Hi Bobby

You're welcome.

Do you mean you see HP logo screen or Windows loading screen each time when you start up each time?

I get that you can successfully do System restore to a previous good point?

Now since HDD had not failed, I suggest you do change automatic Windows Update from Control Panel to "To Check for Updates Automatically but Let you Choose to Download and Install them or Not" next time after you do a restore. Be sure to restore it toa point at least 48hrs before the problem started.

May be done update is causing the problem.

Next: execute a System file scan - Option 2 in this tutorial:
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/3047-sfc-scannow-command-run-windows-8-a.html

Restart system.

Then, execute dism commands given in Option 1 in this tutorial:
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26512-dism-fixing-component-store-corruption-windows-8-a.html

Restart system.

Now you manually install Windows update I'm matches of 5 instead of everything as a whole.

Restart system after each batch installs.

Note: Completely disable/uninstall all the Antivirus softwares from your system during the whole time.

Re: HP Laptop, doens't start first time, starts randomly

Hi Bobby:

Either the hard drive must be failing or OS for corrupted or it may be just some Windows Updates causing the problem which you can do a system restore to a previously known good state.

Do a complete - quick & extensive hard drive testing from BIOS first:

Do you have the recovery media with you?

Re: HP Laptop, doens't start first time, starts randomly

Hi Visruth,

Thank you for helping me. I have done both a quick and an extensive test and it has passed it all. When I purchased my laptop, it came with no recovery media, no cd's etc.

Thanks

Re: HP Laptop, doens't start first time, starts randomly

Hi Visruth,

I have done everything and done all the updates, except one that was optional and isn't working.  I believe you have solved it, I have tried a few times and it runs first time, without fault.  Thank you very much, you've saved me!!

Many thanks,

Hi Bobby

You're very welcomeSmiley Happy

Glad to be of any help!

You can leave any optional updates that becomes available in your Windows Update without any worries. In fact, sometimes optional updates could also screw things up, so let it go.
