I have tried that code in the same box and it does not work.  I am still getting 'Enter Administrator Password or Power On Password' each time I power it on.

Hi,

In that case, check the following.

1.  The halt code ( generated after 3 incorrect entries ) that you've posted is correct.

2.  Shut down the notebook and unplug the AC Adapter.  Hold  down the Power button continuously for 30 seconds, then release it.  Plug in the AC Adapter, start the notebook and try entering the code again.

3.  Try entering the code via an external usb QWERTY keyboard.

This is the exact code as displayed:

[i 71979570]

I tried what you said above and none of it worked.

Hi,

Unfortunately,  the only further suggestion I have would be to Contact HP regarding this.

You might try holding down the Windows logo key along with the B key while powering up to reset the BIOS.  Also try leaving it turned on until the battery completely discharges and then plug it back in to boot it.

Windows Key + B option allowed me to recover the bios image.  However it retained the password, so I'm still at square one with this.

It has now given me a new code as well:

[i 55620440]

Enter the code at:{edited]  to get the password, you might have to remove the leading "i".
