I had been having a number of issues with slow response and freezes. I am currently running the Run-In test from the Start opt-out menu. It has been running for 2 Days 19 hours! It is currently showing passed for Memory Test, SMART Check and Short DST and is on the 257th iteration.
How long should I continue to allow this to run?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!
Beth

I was able to get to the Recovery menu by clicking ESC as the PC booted up and then selecting F11.
I was able to resolve my issue this way.
Thanks!

Hi,
This depends on the size of the HDD on your notebook. Short test should complete within 10 or 20 min. Also you can check the below link about the testing HDD from BIOS

7A little more information may help. My computer is a Pavilion dv7 that is approximately 2 1/2 years old.
I got to these tests by pressing F2 at login.
It runs the following series of tests over and over:
Memory Test: PASSED
SMART Check: PASSED
Short DST: PASSED
Optimized DST: Test in Progress
When it finishes the Optimized DST, it just starts over again.

In that case turn OFF the notebook, then remove the battery & power adapter. Press and Hold the power ON button for 20 seconds. Turn ON the System and let me know what happens. If the system loads Windows or Not.
Also if it does not loads, light status on power button & caps lock with model number and product number of the system.

I have a model dv7t-4100, product WW181AV.
I followed your directions. When I used the fingerprint scanner to try to login, I get this message:
The Group Policy Client service failed the logon. Access is denied.
I get this message when I use the password as well.

Do you have another use profile with Admin rights ? If yes then you can use the below steps:
og in with administrator right user
--> go to c:\users & re name the Administrator Folder ---> Then Restart the windows 7 OS.
If not then you have to reinstall the OS using the below option which will take the system to day 1.

The solution requires that I begin from the Start menu, but I cannot get to it. The system boots up to the login screen showing my user ID and the "Switch to Another User" option, but I have no other users created.
How do I get to the Start menu? I tried clicking the Windows button, but nothing happened.
