hp2000 notebook freezing

Hello,

My Hp2000 Notebook with Windows 8 freezes a lot, and I have only had it a couple of months.  It freezes randomly while using Internet explorer (both from desktop or the app), Google Chrome, and during other programs.  I've scanned for viruses and don't have very many programs or any big games installed. Also, sometimes when it freezes, after I turn it off and back on, it freezes again before it even finishes booting up.  Anybody have any idea why it's doing this or how to fix it??

Thanks,

Melanie

Re: hp2000 notebook freezing

Hi Melanie,

First, completely shutdown the notebook by holding down the Shift key as you click on 'Shutdown'.

Tap away at the esc key as soon as you start the notebook to access the Start-up Menu and then select the Diagnostic options (f2).  Run all the tests available here ( start with the Hard Drive and Memory tests ).

If any test fails, post back with the error code and the test it relates to.

Regards,

Re: hp2000 notebook freezing

Hi,

I ran the tests and the tune-up as well.  Everything passed.

Thanks,

Melanie

Re: hp2000 notebook freezing

HP 2000 freezes on main screen with all the icons. Ran diagnostics and said

Failure ID:M4GG6F-6HW6Q1-MFGJW1-61SP03

Product ID: D1G37UA#ABA

Hard Drive 1

Now what do I do?

Re: hp2000 notebook freezing

Hey DavidPK,

I ran the tests and it's coming back that my Hard Drive Short DST failed. The failure ID is: 94P07K-6SF7SU-MFGJWK-60WA03 and the Product ID is: E9G90UA#ABL

I'm just wondering if I'll be able to fix this myself? Or if I am going to have to go somewhere and get it fixed?

Thank you,

Danielle

Re: hp2000 notebook freezing

Hi Danielle,

The diagnostic code does confirm the the hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced, gowever it's not that difficult to do this yourself - a brief guide on this is as follows.

Your notebook is listed as coming with a 500Gb Hard Drive, but you can just as easily install a 750Gb HDD if you want a bit more space - the drives on the following links are examples that would be fine for your notebook.

500Gb Hard Drive

750Gb Hard Drive.

The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 61 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

Once done, simply use your Recovery Media to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive - this procedure is described in the HP document Here.

If you don't have your Recovery Media, you can order a replacement set using the link below.

Order HP Recovery Media.

If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

Best regards,
