Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

thanks for that informative response :smileyhappy: however, I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who has been experiencing a random freezing/hanging in windows 7 when using these drivers? It happens everyday, and i've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what it is!! i thought it was chrome, but it's now frozen when chrome wasn't running. I think it may have something do with the aftermath of running a game, as this seems to be when it freezes (usually about 10 minutes after, so i don't think it's heat). Any ideas?? Other than switching over to the intel graphics when I'm not using the 7690m obviously

Thnx for the more broad explanation man,

I agree with You, good price for what we get.

However... are you recommending installing newest 12 Catalyst???

Even ATI warning is displayed in driver download description..... " this driver will not work for Laptops with dual/switchable graphics" for appropriate drivers download from your manufacture.

I think I even tried to install it ... and it told me : " not able to install" hardware not compatible....

I also own a Acer laptop that I use for work, and the dual switching graphics never work right.  It is great idea, bad design.  Both ATI and Nvidia's work propperly.

Go to BIOS and set FIXED for graphics switching.  I always use intel gpu, unless playing a game.  All you do is right click desktop, select configure switchable graphics and select high performance or low performance gpu.  You do want to use intel as much as you can, you will notice your fans rpm raise more with ati gpu (meaning more heat generated even though i notice no difference in battery life drain).

Catalyst 12.2 drivers http://downloads.guru3d.com/AMD-Catalyst-12.2-Preview-Driver-download-2848.html  Make sure you first have the HP drivers installed 8.882.2.3000, you will need that for the intel gpu.  Then install 12.2 (you dont have to be in safe mode or anything) and 12.2 updates the ati gpu drivers.  The issue with 8.88.2.3000 is there is an outdated open GL source code in it that puts the wrong refresh rates on monitors for laptops that usually crashes the program or gives you blank screens.  12.2 fixes that issue.

NOTE:  I found the 12.2 drivers on their site to be glitched, so do many others, I use the 12.2 preview.  The server with the 12.2 is sourcing the wrong drivers, use the link i posted.

1. What drivers are you using?

2. Its not chrome, I use it as well.  Did you change any display drivers after you got your laptop?

3. Are you on BIOS Fixed setting yet?

If you did change any drivers, i would first make sure your on fixed.  then use intel gpu.  then go to uninstall, and uninstall all ati drivers listed.  Download the  8.88.2.3000 from HP and install.  Then download 12.2 preview link above, and install that.

NOTE:  Turn off windows auto update, it might try and install updated intel drivers which are wrong for our hp intell gpu.

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

Venum, I forgot to say that the reason the ATI direct drivers wont work is because the 7690 is not a ATI gpu, it is a modified 6770 gpu, that is why ATI drivers wont work.  Catalyst drivers are made by paid wetware designers hired by severeal companies like DELL to make appropriate drivers for their modified hardware.  That is why Catalyst works and not ATI, they are designed to make all ATI gpu's opperate, no matter who the manufacturer is.

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

Yes, You mentioned that our 7690 is actually 6770 modified... :smileywink:

So I will instal this Catalyst 12 from your link..

Do I have to be on intel gpu while instaling that?

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

again, thanks for the response!!! My bios is set to fixed, and i am using leshcat's lastest drivers via his blog. i believe it's 8.95? My lappy hasn't actually crashed this afternoon (update with leshcat this morning) so maybe the problem is fixed? :smileyfrustrated: however, using the ati preview drivers i still got the same problem as i was having before (freezing and hanging). Used leshcat's clean up tool so maybe i had some bad drivers left over or something! will let you know if my laptop does return to it's old ways >:smileyhappy:

Dude You are totally not going to believe what I have just found out!!

Using my "HP standard CAtalyst " driver...

Setting to FIX switch mode...

Disabling from change of GPU in AC/DC mode

AND SETTING POWER PLAY TO :
Battery - MAx performance
Plugged in - Max performance... Game finally recognised the appropriate GPU!!!

I tried to disable PowerPlay™ and then the old problem came back (game used Intel GPU)
Now I remember what I did last time! I left the "POWERPLAY" to both Max performance

All of You who still did not update to 12 Catalyst try this!

Who's advice You are refining to??

Mine or other guys?

Mine should not have caused any problems on your laptop, as it is only selection of different options and does not involve any additional installations.

Either way sounds like a malware or virus..
Every time I get cluster of erros and freezes... I use this programs

SpyBot Search & Destroy:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
(standard mode)
and

CCleaner:
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner (use Registry check option)

See how this helps

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

update: so after some researching i found out that it might actually be the WMI service that is crashing my computer. It froze a couple of times yesterday, but like i said, no word on a video hardware failure. I've gone through some processes to try and fix this, so hopefully this can help with my freezing problem!
