Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

@baba94

Gregsuarez is right a cooling pad is a must, I've had a couple, one with a USB hub and one without, I like the one without the best, it does the best cooling, is a bit louder but has 3 fans, keeps it much cooler, when I did Have crisys running at max settings ( wasn't for long when I tried to play another game and updated drivers) it ran about 70C° while playing, I was using CPUiD hardware monitor to record max remps, that was the hottest the cpus got, the mobo got no hotter than 63C° and the Gfx stayed a balmy 58C°. It was a Targus Chill Pad, a bit on the pricey side, but fit nicely under the laptop, was a bit deepr than the laptop but only .15in narrower. Even when I used the keyboard and pointing pad to play, my hands never seemed to get overly hot and sweaty, the whole laptop stayed cool, even the exaust wasn't but just warm. Beware, read a few bad reports about the fans quiting after a short period. Hope you enjoy your laptop and good gaming to you.

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

@ Baba.  If you laptop is new then return it for another.  A new laptop should not be reaching 95c.  I beleive the max temp on a i7 is 96c, so your computer is about to shut it self off automatically to save itself.  Temps depend on where you live, humidity and dryness levels, altitude, outside temps ect.  Living in California I never get temps above 80C, when visiting high altitude like Colorado I have hit 88C.  That is always with a coolingpad, which you should alwasy use when reving up your cpu/gpu.

Your cpu temp will alwasy slowly rise as your thermal paste wears down.  If your new laptop is hitting 90s now you have no wiggleroom, coolingpad or not.  I think their is a airpocket on the termal dye of your cpu and its not propperly cooling.  I would be very concerned if my week old laptop is hitting those high temps.  Since your in warranty, have HP fix or replace it.  When you are out of warranty, then you can easily take your hp apart and apply arctic silver 5 to your cpu to lower the temps.  Also computer companies use cheap generic thermal paste that works poorly.  Tests have shown that arctic silver 5 and other top of the line thermal pastes on general lower your cpu temp by 5-9c then the generic stuff HP uses.

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

Pardon my ignorance guys but is a cooling pad really needed? I mean HP, Intel, nVidia etc build their parts so that if something does overheat, the system can manage itself just fine by shutting down the system. In addition to thata, the fan is already regulating itself by increasing when needed and decreasing when the system is not being worked as hard. Yeah a cooling pad will cool the system and not work the fans as much but then why are the fans in the system then to begin with? Shouldn't we let them do theier job

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

If you dont want to use a cooling pad, and have your system shut down everytime you play a game, go for it.  But if you want to help protect your laptop to last as long as possible, then you need a cooling pad.  All electronics from HDTV, AV Recievers, PS3, XBox 360, Laptops and Desktops ext. all generage heat and this heat is what greatly depletes the lifespan of the component.  All these systems are made by companies that cut corners to save a penny, so you will never have a product be designed with the best cooling mechanics, so you have to assist them as well.

My ps3 has a cooler (protecting it from YLOD; yellow ring of death that over 70% of ps3 develop within 2 years from heat), my AV reciever has a cooling pad after my ONKYO SR606 died after 6 months from heat related issues, my Panasonic 42" HDTV developed ghosting effects on corners resulting from heat damaging the lens of the hdtv.  Everything creates vast heat which must be controlled as best as possible.  In total, do you HAVE to get a cooling pad = NO, should you to prolong the life of your component = ABSOLUTELY.

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

Well their case managers are telling me there is nothing they will do, that they will not change out my Graphics Card. They want me to send my Laptop in, test the graphics card, and if there is an issue with the graphics card, they will install a new 7690 graphics card to laptop, when our issue is the 7690 graphics card.

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

Good day guys,

I have just recived this from HP admin ... (he contacted me because I was cursing on the forum)

I told him our problem.

He sent me this
"Hi VENOMs7000 ,

I'm sorry but this is a peer-to-peer community of HP customers, and not a venue to contact HP directly. Most of the users here are consumers like yourself who are offering solutions because they like to help others, and any HP employees you see are here on their own capacity and not representing the company.

If you have additional or direct feedback for HP about their products or services, or questions about repair, you can use the link below for contact information.

If you have other questions and concerns about using the forum, please feel free to send me a private message.

Thank you."

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

I don't know how to respond to this kind of "solution" they provide.

The point is that 7690m xt is a defective model for certain games (in my case League of Legend and Diablo3beta), so even though they install a new chip, the problem will still exist, unless they can upgrade the driver to fix it (which I don't think they will).  They just can't understand the logic, and always want me to send my laptop back to them for inspection.   After the expense of time, they will find the card works as they expect, nothing wrong, but when it ships back to us, the card still unplayable in the games.

OMFG....feel so tired of playing this stupid game with HP.....

They know exaclty what is the problem .... they are just playing "he will soon give up" card.
They know what was the problem before we even known it. They predicted this but never thought that some people will actually go through all this trouble to solve it ...

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

The case manager said "its my fault for selecting a graphics card that doesnt suit our needs" when its advertised as "Mind Blowing Gaming Performance" in magazines. Are you kidding me?
