My new dv7t laptop with the GT 650M shipped last night, but, you know... I think I'm finished with HP.  A dude on the Steam forums turned me on to Sager gaming-grade laptops.  It's a little more money than the dv7t, but it has more upgraded components that will give the laptop a longer relevant life for gaming.  It also comes without all of the bloatware the HP comes with (all the pre-loaded junk that intrudes into your registry and slows down performance... unwanted programs, web links, support apps, etc.).  It has the same 3rd-gen Intel i7, but has 16GB of 1600MHz RAM (HP's is 1333MHz), and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M, which is considered one of (if not THE) best laptop gaming GPUs available.  The web site Game-Debate specs the GTX 675M as 97% better than the GT 650M.

So, it's been fun.  Good luck with getting the Radeon issue solved.

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

Greg, don't buy into the gtx 675m business. That's a re-branded card, used to be gtx 580m. It is powerful indeed, but still based on old Fermi core, very power hungry and generate a lot of heat. If you're willing to shell out premium, wait for gtx 680m, which is based on Kepler. For me, gt 650m is good enough. I may even try overclock it, since it is a Kepler card, runs very cool.

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

Bummer....    Unfortunately, those well trained HP customer services/case managers did a good job in block us outside.

Just finished talking with a case manager, Susan.  Pretty intimidating sound, like a teacher talking to her student.   She didn't even ask my laptop model number nor my graphic card number.  She said the only choice from HP is to repair.  If I don't want to repair it, then the last option for me is to call shop department to see if I can return it or not.

I don't want to return it...I need a laptop to work with, although it fails to function well as advertised for gaming.

So, I think I am reaching the dead end now.  I am not gonna try anything else; the whole thing is just exhasting and making no consensus with HP at all.   This laptop costs me almost one month's earning ( I am a graduate student living by monthly stipend), I feel so sad that it ends up like this.

@ D3 : make sure you exhaust your option for a refund. Call the refund line to exhaust that option.

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

@ CJackson Sir,

I am living in CO, USA now.  Though I feel like to argue more for our own right, but this thing is just out of my depth.

Anyway, no more to complain, I am just wishing everything goes well for you all who are still in the fight.

Good luck and take care.

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

Well I dropped my old system off at FedEx Kinkos the same day I called to set up the exchange.  Also I just checked again and it looks like it is scheduled to be delivered on Friday :smileyhappy:

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

Well, I still can uninstall those drivers 12.2 at anytime and put my comp to it's original formation right?
