Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

@aplant92 I have the exact same problem! Every game I play the 7690m either stops responding and freezes or gives me a BSOD. I've tried wiping the hard drive and reinstalling the drivers but nothing works. I've tried both new and old drivers and nothing stops the crashing. It even crashes when I use Chrome (since it's graphics accelerated). The only way the computer is stable is when I switched to fixed graphics in bios ans turned off the graphics card. I've been so frustrated.

I have the DV6t with 8gigs of memory, i7, and 700rpm hardrive.

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

So let me get something straight. By updating to CCC 12.2, switchable graphics works? And if I go into my BIOS and set GPU switching to "fixed", why would I update CCC?

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

Also, when I have my BIOS set to "Dynamic" GPU switching and I select High Performance in CCC, my computer will not, under any circumstances, use the AMD graphics. Is this the case with every HP Envy laptop or just mine? Finally, when I play graphics intensive games, like Assassin's Creed, moving the laptop around will cause the game to slow down to a crawl. The framerate will drop from ~35 to ~5. Is this related to the driver issue?

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

hi there! I know, it is extremely frustrating, you'd think with a computer this expensive we would at least get a little mileage out of the graphics cards! I just received my laptop back from the repair place. On the sheet it states that the problem could not be replicated, however, at the bottom it shows that a new motherboard was installed. Whether or not this fixed the problem i have no idea, but still very skeptical!

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

Wait scratch that, turns out they had the motherboard, but deemed my laptop to be 100% fine so didn't use it. :\ so basically I sent my laptop off for a week for nothing to happen. Hp definitely living up to their reputation!

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

@mec287 We should work together and try and solve this problem!! Are you using any external devices such as mice or anything when you get your freezing? Have you been playing minecraft at all? What applications are normally running when the freezes occur? Such as steam, etc. I've heard that it could be an issue with the wifi, but i figure we may as well troubleshoot together before we go reinstalling everything!

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

Definitely not the wifi. It happens when I'm connected via Ethernet cable or wifi.

I'm getting crashes on all my games, but some with fewer crashes than others. Right now I'm playing starcraft 2, SWTOR, Skyrim, and Deus Ex. Of those games Deus Ex and SWTOR crash the most. Deus ex crashes less often when in direct x 10 mode. Using Google chrome for any length of time with also cause the screen to freeze.

The timing seems random. Sometimes it will happen at the start of the game, other times an hour or more in. It does not seem to crash when running benchmarks though, even really intense ones.

The way it crashes seems inconsistent also. Sometimes I'll get a BSOD, sometimes the image on the screen just freezes (but I still have sound), other times windows will be able to restart the display driver. The crashes happen regardless of the bios settings and seemingly regardless of the drivers I use. I'm using the drivers that I downloaded from HP now (swtor does not work on those drivers). I've tried reinstalling windows and all the associated drivers. Nothing.

I have very few programs since its basically brand new. I also have a cooling pad.
I'm glad I'm not alone. I thought I was the only one having this problem.

Hopefully we can figure this thing out! I thought it was a driver issue but no one seems to have the same problem.

Re: 7690M GPU = HP HORRIBLE DRIVER SUPPORT

hmmm this is extremely confusing!! The way you described your crashes exactly replicates mine. Im going to do a complete clean install, and wipe all the hard drives in the process. I'll see if that does anything, and install the drivers from the hp website. It's really frustrating that no one else knows a solution! :smileysad: crossing my fingers that hp releases new drivers this month, as someone mentioned on another forum!
