8440p w/windows XP Screen Corruption

Hello,

We have ~ 200 laptops with intermitant screen corruption issues.  If you were to take a screen print of the image below it would look fine if you open it on a diffrent computer or the computer when it is not having the issue.  Just oneering if anyone else has seen this issue,  if so what are you calling it (corruption/fragmentation/etc).  The issue does not seem to be apparent on our windows 7 devices, and does seem to be more problematic for users docking/undocking their laptop more frequently.  Also the issues dont seem to follow one issue or another,  it seems to be problematic in all applications.

This is an interesting article. It seems to describe the problem,  although we do not have the Nvidia graphics chip.

Also we are using the Intel integrated graphics card,  wondering if this is the case for others that are having the problem. or if you are having issues with Nvidia Discrete?

Re: 8440p w/windows XP Screen Corruption

Hi all,

I'm also habing this problem, but not only on HP8440p. I'm also having with HP2540p and someone reported me that on other site they're having problems with HP dc8000sff (not a laptop).

I already updated BIOS to latest version, installed latest video drivers HP 6.14.10.5303  sp51234.exe without any luck.

I saw in a forum someone telling that he started having problems when he updated from 5268 to 5284 video drivers, so in 2 laptops I downgraded the video drivers to the 5268 version, but only yesterday, and this is an intermitent problem.

On another one I'm testing the Intel new video driver 5313 also.

I think this problem must be video driver related or memory related, because if we make a remote desktop to a pc which is having problem at that moment, we can work perfectly on it by the rdp connection.

Or the video driver is "messing" all thing up or even can be the way Windows XP manages the shared memory from the system and the video card.

I already opened a HP case but without any good tip or response.

If anyone knows anything more it would be great to hear it  :smileywink:

Cheers everyone

This is a old thread but I found the cause/solution so sharing the info I gathered incase someone else have the same issue.

The issue here is the drivers, power source, and display options. I noticed that when I got these corruptions (exactly as I see in your screenshot), it went away if I plugged in the power.

I thought issue must be power setting related (which correlate with OP's finding of it working when its on dock (powerd)),

>> so hunting around the Intel Graphics properties > Power > Power plans > on battery, I set the option to maximum performance (dont use normal or power saving).

If your using power saving option for plugged in for max battery, you will get this issue whether its plugged in or not. I made this unfortunate mistake while testing this issue and i had the issue on battery or not. so i had to be creative to get to the graphics display agan and reset it to max performance.

This definitely fixed the screen corruption issue for me. I suspect there is a bug in drivers for xp where the power saving features are not working as it should and just causing havok on our system. This system shouldnt be running xp anyway lol

GL!

Re: 8440p w/windows XP Screen Corruption

Hello and thanks for the valuable info. we have 8440p's and 2540p's with different screen/ hangup issues. 8440p's we can manage by updating INtel video driver, but 2540p's remain a mystery: blank screen when you remove laptop from dock and there is very little you can do then.  Can I ask you to please explain again what would be the setting you recommed here? Do you mean this:  Power settings-> modify settings->( choose) Intel display power saving technology: Maximum Battery? Do I get this right..  Thanks

Re: 8440p w/windows XP Screen Corruption

I'm not familiar with 2540P but if the issue is the same, then you are correct. In intel display options, for power saving you set it for max performance for when on batter and when plugged in.
