I purchased a brand-new HP G71-340US laptop with 17" screen today from Staples. When I opened the laptop for the first time, I noticed that there was a visible speck in the LCD screen. Upon closer inspection, it looked like there was a small grayish hole on the screen (size maybe about 4x4 px), perhaps made by a dust particle that was pressed into the screen at some point. After doing some research and conducting tests on stuck pixels, I concluded that that was not the cause (particularly because the screen surface seemed to dip a little around that area). I also tried to wipe the screen using the cloth that came with the laptop, but it did not go away.
Also, there is another, even smaller speck in another area of the LCD.
The specks are noticeable if I look directly at them, but in relation to the whole screen they are obviously tiny.
How common is this kind problem? Do you think it is a serious defect or merely an annoyance? I bought the last unit the store had, so I cannot get an exchange, at least not for a while.
Thanks in advance for your input!
