Re: ABOUT THE BAD NVIDIA CHIPS PUT INTO LAPTOPS!

If anyone is looking at buying a HP Pavilion 6000 or 9000 series lap top, please read all the blogs and forums about their Video chip failures.  This is a know problem and HP is acting as though there isn't a problem even though they  have collected over 200M from the video chip maker for defective chips.  HP has pocketed the money and telling everyone that's out of warrentee

that they are out of luck. If you have an NVIDIA chip and an AMD processor it is just a matter of time before it fails.

The tech told me I should pay the $400 to extend the warrantee as it cheaper than spending $1600 on a new LapTop.

My response was "If i'm going to spend that kind of money then I'll buy a MAC.

Re: ABOUT THE BAD NVIDIA CHIPS PUT INTO LAPTOPS!

You can add me to that list. Here is what my computer guy wrote to me concerning this:

The Graphic Chipset over heats, and this is especially noticeable with the Nvidia Drivers that push the graphic processors to the max.
Upgrading to newer drivers (direct from HP or Nvidia, do nothing to fix the issue). Downgrading to previous version, do not help either.
The most stable driver is actually the default VGA driver that comes with windows, but as soon as you run some graphic intensive apps the computer crashes.
So, yeah, same deal as everyone else. it is too bad HP can't do some customer service and fix or replace the expensive lemons they let us buy. So disappointed. I am game for any lawsuits anyone wants to get together.

Re: ABOUT THE BAD NVIDIA CHIPS PUT INTO LAPTOPS!

Nvidia is only replacing the laptops for USA residents?

How about other parts of the world (ie. Australia...Asia...) ?

Re: ABOUT THE BAD NVIDIA CHIPS PUT INTO LAPTOPS!

I' ve experienced the same thing with my Nvidia geforce 7400 last year. At first I have a warning about the hardware acceleration of my graphic card which I desabled, then the system got stuck and it doesn' t manage at all the high resolution. Few days later it stopepd working in graphic mode, I mean It works only in text mode which I used to go through a lengthy and vain diagnostic.

I remember that the  fan was a little bit loudy the last few month and was reluctant to clean it. So i decide to do it and I found it in a pity situation. I assemble the computer again and it worked correctly.  I assume that the main problem came from the  excess heat the fan did not manage to vacuate,  as the graphic card working on high resolution get hot quickly.

So the main problem was HP  cooling system associated ofcourse with the right protection system on the Nvidia grahic card. Just like all Intel system, they stop working whn they got hot too much

I had a look for the first tme on the heat ventilation system on my dv5191ea, and I  am sure that HP did not made the right choice with a such system.

Re: ABOUT THE BAD NVIDIA CHIPS PUT INTO LAPTOPS!

Have already posted this in another thread............but i would like to add it here too....(and everywhere else i find a mention of HP...)

.

nvidia has owned responsibility and agreed to a settlement......but only for customers in the US....(that doesnt include me as i am from India and surely many others....).

.

So others have to do with burnt gpus for now.... worse still my computer (Pavilion dv3005tx) with (fried) nvidia 8400 M GS apparently isnt included in the affected models (why?...)

.

Another interesting development is an HP employee has acknowledged the settlement in these forums but clearly stated that HP is not a party to the settlement......(is this an indirect way of saying that HP DOES NOT CARE??)

.

Anyways...happy that at least many of us will get justice...finally.......:smileyhappy:hope that the settlement is extended to other parts of the world as well.......(please nvidia..)

.

As for HP, i think they need some lessons in customer care..... maybe a case study in "how NOT to behave with customers" in some B-school...

Meanwhile...am running the PC as a room-heater this winter.....the kind of heat it generates will put others to shame.....

.

Just came up with a new slogan for HP:

HP...THE COMPUTER IS PERSONAL AGAIN     or

HP...THE GPU IS FRIED AGAIN                             or maybe

HP...THE CUSTOMER IS PISSED AGAIN            or better still

HP...PLEASE NEVER BUY AGAIN..............oh i can hear the applauses:smileyhappy::smileytongue::smileyvery-happy:
