BD-ROM Does not recognize Blu Ray Discs

I have an HP Pavillion dv7 1034ca Laptop with an Sony Optriac 5500s BD-ROM Drive. I have 4 Blu Ray movies which previously played without any problems. Now the drive does not even recognize them. When the disc is in the drive it shows as being empty. DVD's are recognized and play without any problem. I have installed all of the updates availible from HP via Health Check as well as updating QuickPlay. Can anyone help with this problem?

maybe this thread can help , http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=OS&thread.id=9646   the latest version of Media Smart DVD software is 2.20B  the latest HP Quick Launch is 6.40.17.2
i would install the updated software directly from the driver page of your laptop , HP health check is sometimes behind in updates.

Re: BD-ROM Does not recognize Blu Ray Discs

My computer came with Quick Play DVD software not Media Smart DVD. I have the latest version of that software 3.7 v.6310. I also uninstalled the BD-ROM driver. These measures have not resolved the problem. What does Quick Launch have to do with the BD-ROM?

Re: BD-ROM Does not recognize Blu Ray Discs

quick launch works better than a mouse  because in media smart the mouse  sometimes does not work with the media smart software on movie menus

Re: BD-ROM Does not recognize Blu Ray Discs

Will the optical drive recognize other discs?

If not, try this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

Re: BD-ROM Does not recognize Blu Ray Discs

It recognizes DVD's and Audio discs. It also recognized Blu-Ray discs when I first got it but not now.

So if you've got a blu-ray disc in the player, and you open up 'Computer', does it say if there is a disc in or not?

Re: BD-ROM Does not recognize Blu Ray Discs

Funny how I'm experiencing the same problem at almost the same time. I was watching "Wanted" on Blu Ray on 5/23. It worked, then when I let my computer hibernate, the BD drive didn't recognize the disc. I rebooted several times (with and without the disc in the drive) to no avail. Also, I reinstalled Quickplay to no avail. I rented a new BD (Flags of our Fathers) and it doesnt work either.  Then, I just received a new BD from blockbuster mail (No Country for Old Men) and this one works okay.

I've experienced several BD issues when I first got my Pavilion. It has problems reading certain BD movies, but I cannot pinpoint the root cause. Is it firmware or the BD disc itself?  Dark Night worked okay on my disc. I saw in other threads that it didn't work for someone. It's really schizophrenic and annoying at this point. Is Blu Ray worth all this headache?
