Blu-ray playback problems

I'm having problems with some blu-ray playback on my laptop.  All my other blu ray discs work fine.  When I try to play it, I get a message stating I need to update my software and it tells me to go to cyberlink's website.  After dealing with their customer support for a few days, they said I needed to come to HP because I'm running a customized OEM version of their product.  HP said on the weekend I needed to contact 20th Century Fox after we updated the HP Mediasuite.  20th Century Fox doesn't offer any kind of tech that I can see.

I have a  HP Pavilion dv7-1270us Entertainment Notebook PC. I have some version of Cyberlink's Powerdvd which runs through HP Mediasuite and plays my Blu-ray dvds.  If anyone can help me figure out what kind of blu-ray drive I have, that'd be great as then I could look up drivers through them.  Thanks for the help!

Re: Blu-ray playback problems

i have the same laptop with the same problem. after several attempts the correct it through hp it. it is now working to play most of the discs i have.

an update for the system bios seemed to do the trick. its still runs finicky and sometimes i have to restart the player several times to get it running some of the rented movie discs.

Re: Blu-ray playback problems

How did you go about updating the bios?  What were some of the solutions HP offered?  I did the reinstall Cyberlink, update Cyberlink routes to no success.

Re: Blu-ray playback problems

Hi all,

I have figured out how to fix the Blu-ray problem most of you are having with your movies. I hade the screen that said go to cyberlink.com/BDUpdate and then i downloaded the active-x only to find out that cyberlink didnt recognize my software. Well that is there problem and all of yours use this link and download there version of HP mediasmart DVD. Apparently theres is better than the one HP has. http://docs.cyberlink.com/multi/patch/enu/result.jsp?SR=HTS080229-03&ProductNo=HTS00006&AutoBuildID=...

I tried to watch Babylon AD and it didnt work until I used this link. It will make you uninstall your current version witch is more than likely 2.0 and then it will install V2.5 witch is working great for me. It took me 20 minutes of messing around on the net to find this. I spent 500 or so minutes with HP customer support that I have to pay Verizon for just to uninstall and reinstall drivers that didnt help jack. im not bashing HP but you would think that HP would have figured this out and posted it before me.

No Easy Resolution, it may seem...

I just sent a follow up email to HP Support about the Blu Ray player not working.

So if I read your message correctly you have partial resolution. The fact that you have to restart or that the player is still somewhat "glitchy" is absolutely ridiculous. There is no apparent resolve without some form of grief.

Good luck!

Re: Blu-ray playback problems

Lets face it,it is all designed so you will update your Cyber software for upteen bucks to get the newer Bluerays to work. I have three  setups to choose from and each one will only run either the older blu rays (plant earth ) somewhat newer ( Casino Royale ) on not at all ( Indiana Jones ) You get no support so you will buy the new upgrades available from the original partial supporters who will not support changes for free, HP and Cyber just will not say so. So you are now stuck after a year, either be P_____ off and buy another Blu Ray supporter, buy a new drive and computer support or Upgrade with Cyber for whatever.

Me, I have decided to forget about newer blu ray on the computer and stop dropping money into this pit of planned stick it to me in this day of awareness!

Re: Blu-ray playback problems

Hi Toronto699

I downloaded the updates on Saturday. Still got the same issues. Researched this Forum yesterday. Found 4/5 threads with bluray players not working correctly within the HP community

Re: Blu-ray playback problems

So far Cyberlink  9 30 day download on CNET runs best if run alone. All media smart seems to flicker no matter what I do .
