Cannot use Windows movie maker to edit data from my Panasonic HDC-SD9EB-S High Defintion camcorder

Can anybody help me please. I am the proud owner of the above camera, and I thought it was going to be easy to transfer data from the camera to the Windows movie maker to edit and make my own movie. The movie maker comes installed on my fairly new PC which operates on Windows Vista Home Premium.  Panasonic have their own editing suite software which came with the camera, but is more basic than the Windows movie maker. Am I doomed to only use the Panasonic editing suite or can ther be something done?  Also, I am fairly new to all this, is there anyway I can transfer data to a DVD so I can play it on an ordinairy DVD player (even if it means me recording in a lower grade on my camera)  Are there any Pansonic High Def camcorder owners out there that can share their expertise about this with me. Many thanks in anticipation.
