DV7 weird mark on screen, not a dead pixel

This weird rainbow mark (seen in the photo below) suddenly appeared on my screen while I was sitting with my computer and sneezed. While it looks and feels like a scratch, it strangley follows the line of the pixels perfectly. Anyone have any idea what this is and whether or not it's possible to fix?

Re: DV7 weird mark on screen, not a dead pixel

Shut down and upon boot up immediately start tapping the f10 key to get into the BIOS, do you see the line on that page ?

Connect up an external monitor and see if it appears over there. If it does, then it may be a mother board problem.

If the external is OK, then there is something wrong with the laptop's monitor and/or its related components.

The other that should not be in your screen shot are those grey and white horizontal bands filling the screen.

Re: DV7 weird mark on screen, not a dead pixel

It's a photo of the screen; the mark doesn't appear in screen shots. The mark is still present on the bios screen and isn't present on an external monitor. The computer is still under warranty and the screen has a few dead/dying pixels on it, so I'm pretty sure I could get HP to replace it if necessary.

Re: DV7 weird mark on screen, not a dead pixel

Definitely an internal screen problem, no doubt about that since it shows up in the BIOS and the external shows a normal picture.

Contact HP for a warrantee claim, there is nothing at your end you can do to fix this.

 http://www8.hp.com/us/en/hp-information/summary/ww-contact-us.html

You can also go to your models support page and there will be link(s) in there to set up a warrantee claim, do it as soon as possible, don't wait.
