I have an HP DV7t - 6100 CTO Quad Edition
My Graphics card is the Radeon HD 6770M (1gb)
I am running Windows 7 Professional (64-bit)
I want to rotate my screen 90 degrees (portrait style) but I have found no option for it:
I have looked in Display >> Screen Resolution
In this option window I see:
Display
Resolution
Multiple Displays
I did not see an option for orientation.
I then went to the ATI Catalyst Control Center. I went through the whole thing and there is not option regarding screen orientation or rotation.
Desktops and Displays >>> Advanced Display Settings
There is only one option here which is "Select how Catalyst Control Center will detect display devices" with options:
A) Detect whenever Catalyst Control Center is opened
B) Use manual detection only (I must click the Detect Displays button)
It is currently set to option A. There is nothing else in this menu pane. I have looked through the entire CCC and I have seen options to change things like anti-aliasing or video color settings, but nothing pertaining to screen orientation or rotation.
I'm lost on what to do next, and I would really like to be able to rotate my display. I tried uninstalling the graphics drivers, rebooting, then downloading and installing the latest drivers from the HP website.
The video driver installed: sp55092 2011-11-18 , Version:8.882.2.3000, 338.97M
Is there a possibility that this graphics card simply does not support screen rotation? This seems like a fairly basic feature to me, and I have had many computers with far older graphics cards that have the ability to do this. Any help and feedback would be appreciated, thank you so much for your time!

Hi.
Have you tried under Windows 7 - Personalize ?
- Right click a blank space on Desktop
- Select Personalize
- Select Display (near bottom left)
- Select Change Display Settings
- All you need is to select Portrait
- Click Apply/Ok to get out
Regards.
ps Using hold down BOTH Ctrl + Alt then hit arrow key may also work.

Thanks for the prompt reply!
I have tried going there.
Personalize >> Display >> Change Display Settings
This is what I see:
I don't have an "Orientation" option sadly

Just tried holding Ctrl+Alt Left-Arrow
Ctrl+Alt Right-Arrow
Ctrl+Alt Up-Arrow
Ctrl+Alt Down-Arrow
Sadly nothing happened when I tried this (I waited 5 seconds between each combination).

Hi,
Sorry, may I ask a question: are you using external monitor or just the laptop screen ? If external monitor, what is it ?
Regards.
Updated: This is from a Microsoft forum for ONE HP machine & ATI video card:
HP p6837c with ATI Radeon HD 4200 and Windows 7 Home Ultimate.

My apologies I should have mentioned that sooner. I am using an external monitor, I have it so that only the external monitor is on (the laptop screen is off). The monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 245BW.
I tried following those steps
Screen resolution >> Advanced settings >> Catalyst Control Center
From here I got to:
Desktop Management >> Advanced Display Settings
This is all I see in this option pane:
There is no mention of rotation or orientation.
In the other menus such as
Video >> Video Settings
Gamking >> 3D Application Settings
These let me change things like anti-alias, color correction, etc. But nothing regarding screen orientation or rotation.

I have some kind of CCC icon in my taskbar. When I hover over it, I get this:
When I right click on it I get this:
The rotate display is completely greyed out, I can't do anything with it. Any thoughts on why that might be? Thank you so much for all your suggestions so far!

I am having the same issue with my new HP Pavilion dv7t-6c00 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC and an external ViewSonic LED 1080p HD monitor (using the VGA connection). I have it set to extended desktop with the laptop as primary.
I have no problem doing this with a Dell laptop. If I had known I would have this problem, I might have chosen a different vendor.

I still have not found any solutions to getting this to work.
DaniW or any other HP administrator out there, can you give me some sort of definite answer?
If the graphics card and the included HP ATI drivers are simply incapable of handeling screen rotation/orientation then please just say so. It's okay I can take it. I'd rather have a solid answer in knowing for sure that rotating my screen is a complete impossibility than lingering on with a slight hope that it can be done.
HP admins please give me some sort of sign that you are reading this. The community (specifically banhien) has done a wonderul job in attempting to help me get this working but sadly to no avail. I'm not the only one with this problem as MichelleP is also in the same sitaution. Do you have any sage words of advice? Or at least some bad news. Thank you so much for your time!
