DV9000 - A slightly different nvidia display issue, is it related?

I am working on a DV9000 for a friend - about a year ago, his internal wireless went dead, and about the same time, his display seemed to lose "true/32-bit" color - the color scheme seems to be locked into 256 color mode, despite the display settings being set to 32 bit color.

 

I went as far as doing a reformat/wipe and factory reinstall of everything from the OEM CD's that came with the machine and the display issue persists.

 

Has anyone else seen this? Is it possibly related to the other display issues people have had, but just a different manifestation?

 

Am also wondering if there is any possible workaround - I remember once having a similar issue with a desktop video card but was able to reset the card's firmware with a jumper and bring it back to normal...
