DV9820US Nvidia 7150m/630M screen is dark

I have a Pavilion dv9820us laptop running Vista 64-bit SP2 and a Nvidia 7150M/630M video card. When I turn my laptop on the screen is dark. When I hook up a external monitor I can see my desktop. Sometimes after uninistalling an re-installing the video driver I can my desktop on my laptop. After I restart the laptop the screen returns to darkness.

 

Any suggestions on what I can do so I can see my desktop on my laptop consisently? Thank you for looking.
