DVD player on my HP g62-225NR notebook has run out of attempts to change regional zones to enable to play DVDs encoded to particular regional zones (eg, zone 1 -US and Canada, zone 5 -Russia and Eastern Europe, etc). As the latest attempt was made for zone 5, the DVD is now set for zone 5 and refuses to play DVDs encoded for the zones other than zone 5. According to the information provided in the DVD properties, this cannot be fixed neither by reinstalling the entire operating system nor by moving the DVD player to a different computer. HP warranty for this computer expired some time ago, therefore no assistance can be provided by the manufacturer free of charge. I need the DVD player to be able to play DVDs encoded to zone 1 (US and Canada) and would like to permanently set it up on zone 1. Any suggestions to help solve the issue are greatly appreciated.

Below is the link to the service manual for your PC.
Replacement optical drives with part numbers are listed in Chapter 3, starting on page 3-8. Make sure you order one with the correct color, and the right model (1.1 or 1.2 as applicable).
I think you can tell which model you have by looking at the system board listing in chapter 3, pages 3-4 and 3-5.
You may even want to move up to a Blu-Ray drive, although they are more expensive.
You can order the the one you need at the site below:
I do not know of any way to force a region to stay in one location except to not change it when prompted.
