Display dims and brightens on its own

HP Pavillion dv6 notebook PC PN: QG79EA#ABU

Windows 7 64-bit

Radeon graphics

Intel Core i3

Beats audio

 

While I am using my laptop the display will dim and brighten on its own.  The ambient light in the room has not changed at all.  Is this normal? How and why does it do it.
