Dropped HP 8000dv...screen is now tinted red and very grainy

I dropped my HP 8000DV. The screen is now tinted red and very grainy and low resolution. The laptop can connect via RGB to an external monitor just fine. I opened up the laptop and ensured the ribbon cable was connected securely. I searched the forum and it looks like the only other option is a bad inverter? Is there anything else I can open up and reconnect before purchasing a new screen for $200 on ebay? Or perhaps just purchasing the inverter?
