F2 and F3 Brightness Keys Not Working on DM4-3050US Laptop [ Edited ]

I have a DM4-3050US Pavilion laptop.  The brightness keys do not work at all.  All of the other function keys work fine, such as F9 and F10 for volume.  I have searched long and hard, and tried just about every solution I could find, including  this one that looked so promising: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video/Brightness-Controls-Stopped-Working-dm4/m-p/....  Nothing works, though.  I am not going to do a factory reset - not worth the effort of reinstalling all the software just for the brightness.  I also called HP, and they did offer to swap out the laptop, but again, not worth the aggravation just for brightness keys.  Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?  This must be some sort of bug that HP is aware of, no?

1) Click on Start then search box type Display then click on it then select Adjust Brightness on the Left hand panel then at the bottom the screen you will find Screen Brightness you can use the scroll bar.

Thank you.  Item 1 is a workaround for the problem, but it still does not enable to F2 & F3 brightness keys.  Re: Item 2, the HP support assistant software indicates that all drivers are up to date.  In the past, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics driver, but it did not help.

What?  No, it has not been resolved.  The F2 and F3 brightness keys still do not work.  The problem is still there.

Try using these keys The key numbers (F7 or F8 ) may vary depending on the notebook PC; however, the images on the keys should be similiar.

For the dm4-3050US, the F7 and F8 keys are defined as media play and forward, and they work fine as defined.  It's only the F2 and F3 brightness keys that do not work.

Just go to device manager the uninstall the keyboard driver then restart the unit then update the Bios on the unit and have it checked.

How do I update the bios on the unit?  Also, what do you mean by "have it checked."

Have is checked means once you have uninstall the driver then you need to check if the keys are working fine.

To download the latest version of drivers and software files from the HP Support site:

1. Refer to: http://www.hp.com/support

2. Select your country/region.

3. Select Download Drivers and Software.

4. Enter the Product number of your Notebook. The software download pages for your Notebook are displayed select the operating system then click Next.

5. Download and install the driver and software for Bios files.
