G71-340US display power option glitch?

My G71-340US has recently started dimming after 2-3 mins of no activity when plugged in. The power plan setting says to go dark after 10 mins after no activity when plugged in under a plan I created.  I switched to "Balanced" using default settings and still have the same problem. The display comes back on without delay as soon as prompted. I've run both the HP and Windows troubleshooting without finding any error.  Needless to say, this is very irritating as I read many long docs and have resorted to jiggling the mouse to keep screen on.  Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem with my G71-340US. It's driving me buggy. I've tried the same things you have and lot's more. It acts exactly the same. It simply ignores the display pwoer settings when it's plugged to ac power.
