Certainly taking it up with hp is the right thing to do.
It is laptop manufacturer's duty to provide a proper pair of BIOS and drivers that work.
Also I think hp is aware of the problem, and they also have the solution, as they have implemented it already for dv6/dv7.
However they have ignored the other notebooks.
I hope you are able to make some headway with hp. It will certainly help a lot of people.
Also can u share your notebook model / graphics card and OS.
The UnifL solution is only for 64 bit Windows.

@Cobl
I have a Pavilion G6-1211ss bought new from hp just 3 weeks ago. i3-2330M processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM, AMD Radeon 6470M dGPU (and the intel integrated GPU of course), Windows 7 home premium 64bit pre-installed.
I live in Spain and at this point it seems hp support keeps directing me to the local (spanish speaking) support channels. Technical jargon can be difficult to understand sometimes in plain English, I have virtually no hope of getting anywhere with my basic Spanish.

Certainly a difficult situation to be in. I have been through mixed emotions myself!
I saw your specs. The UnifL driver is compatible with your notebook.
I wonder if it is possible for u to return your laptop and exchange it for a supported dv6 notebook.
Otherwise UnifL may be the only solution.
Re. UnifL, it is basically a unified package consisting of newer drivers from AMD and Intel, with some tweaks.
So I suppose there is no harm in using the drivers for long term.
Pl. post back how it goes!
