Re: HP HDX 18 Screen Scratches

I have a DV7-1270 widescreen 17" display.

I have the same issue. A vertical line of abrasion/scratches across the middle of the monitor.

it is caused by the bottom bezel of the keyboard.

The screen is now scratched permanently.

I am extremely annoyed as I bought a case specifically for this laptop to protect it and use it anytime I move it.

I see now that no matter what I do, as soon as I close the lid thedesign of the laptop causes the damage.

Has anyone had any success dealing with HP on this issue?

Re: HP HDX 18 Screen Scratches

My laptop is due back from HP today via fedex. It is supposed to be repaired. They handled it quickly. The problem is that all they did was replace the screen. They did not fix the problem. The screen is flush with the edges of the lid and the keyboard sticks up above the surface of the laptop. This will always be a point of abraision  The rubber guards on the sides and front edge do not prevent the screen from rubbing.  Anyone who owns these kinds of laptops and does not take extra precautions will end up with a scratched screen. I handle my laptop with care all the time. But i should be albe to close it and go with out worry that the screen is going to be scratched. At the very least HP should offer to install screen and key board protectors. I will update as soon as the laptop arrives.

Re: HP HDX 18 Screen Scratches

Hello,

Just wanted to update everyone. I just received my laptop back from HP. They replaced the screen. I was told that they were going to change the keyboard too but they didn't. Would not have helped anyway. I guess for now i'm going to keep a microfiber towel between the keyboard and screen. Thanks to all who answered my post. It was a big help and an eye opener. I guess I lucked out with how my case was handled. To the posters that said that HP flatly refused to replace your screen, keep after them. This is a flaw in a machine that they built and they should be held responsable to fix it. I honestly think that they should have to buy back the affected laptops but i doubt that will ever happen.

Good luck to all.

Re: HP HDX 18 Screen Scratches

Thanks for your updates.

Can you post your ticket# so that the rest of us have a reference when HP says that this is not a "known issue"

and therefore not a problem they have to resolve.

I have been so disappointed with my laptop.

Vista 64 is a nightmare. I have to basically search for patches, updates etc. to make 50% of my programs work,

the computer was shipped with an incompatible wireless card driver and it freezes all the time.

I missed my old desktop ( 4 years old with XP) so muchthat I have gotten it back and reformatted the drives and I am rebuilding

it the way it was.

So much for my new, $1,500.00 Laptop.

I have never been so disappointed in a computer product as I have been with this one.

At the moment I would never recommend HP products to anyone.

I know that all products have issues and that the bloated, mess that Vista 64 is is certainly not HP's fault but there are too many

other issues with this laptop to ignore.

Re: HP HDX 18 Screen Scratches

Pachevyman,

Glad you got your unit back with a screen replacement. I have some units coming my way that we will be examing for the screen scratches.

In regards to the Keyboard problem, Our service centers have been alerted to look for warping of the keyboards and fix them as they come in.

This problem has been corrected a few months back.

thanks!

I am an HP employee.

Re: HP HDX 18 Screen Scratches

The service ticket number is 8027148912

Sorry to here about all the problems your having. 64 bit OS has always been tuff finding drivers. alot of hardware and software won't run under 64 bit enviroment. I have 32 bit vista installed on my laptop because there is a program that i use regularly that won't run under 64 bit. but i have 64 bit vista on my desk top and have not had any problem. alot of your main stream software venders will if you vist their wed site have 64 bit drivers and software. As far as the bloat ware goes I always uninstall it as soon as I take the computer out of the box. Its either not needed or redundant. Hope you get everything straightened out. Good luck.

Re: HP HDX 18 Screen Scratches

Sanchertx,

They didn't replace my keyboard. Do you know that this is fixing the problem? If so i would like to have my keyboard replaced as well. Is there a way to tell if the keyboard is warped. Thanks for the response.
