HP Pavilion DV6 notebook - Display Driver AMD Driver Stops Responding

My new HP Pavilion DV6 notebook's display driver AMD driver keeps on crashing and shuts down to blue screen error. It happened 6 times since I purchased it about two months before.  And the error message showed in the taskbar was " Display Driver AMD Driver Stopped Responding and has been recovered succesfully". But right after that, when I opened a youtube video (website) system shutdown automatically to show the bluescreen.

Please let me know if this is just a driver error or permanent hardware issue. If it is a permanent hardware problem, I have to send the unit to the service center immediately.

My 2 month old HP DV6 is having the same exact issue.

Additionally, it has shut down once due to a overheating issue. 

My last HP DV series did the same thing, it died 17 days after the 1year warranty lapsed due to overheating issues (fan stopped working, HP wanted like 300 to fix it).

Should I just get my $900 back and get a real computer?

This is my first post on the HP support forum.

I got a BSOD twice so far. The display driver was updating each time. I did not notice if it was the 'Windows Update' or the 'HP Support Assistant' display driver update. I have to tell you that it did not leave me with a 'warm fuzzy' feeling. Otherwise I love my AMD dv6. I hope  this error can explained.

Actually, I was worried it was a hardware problem. I couldn't think about taking it to the dumb service center three four times until they figure out the problem. Fortunately, it turned out be a normal driver error only (as I understand) as I received an update for this driver through windows update and after updating it, the problem didn't occur. In addition, to the update (when I was still not sure that it was not resolved), I have downloaded the latest AMD driver from HP's website and reinstalled it. Ever since, I never faced any problem with that. Hope you will be able to find it working this way.

I have the HP DV6T Quad Edition and today when i was editing a video in sony vegas 11, i kept getting "Display Driver AMD Driver Stopped Responding and has been recovered succesfully." Really annoying cause it took me like 5 hours to finish the video and on top of that before it finished rendering it gave me BSoD (blue screen of death) and the cause was the AMD driver. It would be great if HP actually looked into the problem, i got 3 days of the 21 days left to return it. Im ready to get my 750$ back and buy a Asus G74.

I've ordered a DV6 and am interested in this post since I plan to do a lot of video editing on it, though I'll be using Avid Studio and PCLE Studio 14.

Which card and on-board memory do you have?  HP had several options and I upgraded to the 7690M GDDR5 with 1GB onboard memory.  Also, did you check to see if there is an updated driver?

I had purchased the dv6 quad edition and it has 1GB AMD 7690. To be honest I'm not overall impressed with it. And the graphics is not "switchable." you have to go into BIOS and go to graphics and change the graphics card from "Dynamic" to "Fixed." doing this will automatically switch the graphics from intel to amd depending on if it's on battery versus plugged in. You can also manully turn the amd on even on battery by doing what I have said. And the 1GB is not "1GB" it's 700MB according to CPU-Z. My drivers were up to date when I received the laptop (early January).

Sorry about your dv6 quad. Wanna know what happened to my dv6? The Graphic card had malfunctioned (burned) and I sent it to the service center for repair. Guess what? They changed the motherboard 3 times and they couldn't fix the problem! The Graphic Card never functioned properly. If it was a novice user, he would have been cheated easily becasue I checked it each time. Finally, after contacting the HP support for several times (they were good) they agreed to refund me (after 7 months).

I was lucky that this happened within the warranty period. They seem to have some serious problem with the AMD graphic card.

AMD Display driver was trouble from the beginning for me.
