I agree on not buying hp products at all anymore, even if they eventually get to solving all their defects. HP DOES NOT EXIST IN MY WORLD !!!!
I have the hp pavilion dv9775ee (dv9000 series) which I bought on the 14th of May 2008 for $2100 and I am having problems with my gpu as well. I have blue lines on the white hp startup logo at power up and a lot of issues when my Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS drivers are loaded in the operating system, like blank screens, not accessing the windows welcome screen, not being able to access the operating system and blue screens etc. I have uninstalled the graphics drivers in safe mode and now I am running the computer with the Standard VGA drivers supplied by the Vista operating system just so that I can use the computer again. I have also set my power profile to "Balanced" and my operating system to best performance. Everything is working fine except not being able to use my gpu...... I can't play any games at all ... not happy with this defective product from HP and nvidia after only using it for 15 months. What a waste.
Nvidia is also to blame for this and not just hp: do a google search on "nvidia solder problem"

Hi folks,
This may sound like a weird work around, BUT, if you start your computer with the screen cracked open about 2-3 inches and let it finish its boot up or wake from sleep it will work just about every time.
I know that ain't THE solution but its A solution.

Well, I have the same problem as many of you do with my DV9700, 4 months after my warranty expired the display started to get white lines and shut off, now laptop starts but display is black. I called HP, same story, they want $398 to replace the mother board. I paid over $1,300 for it and now it's useless. Laptop was always running hot.
In my personal opinion this is a product design and components issue.
HP has even re-designed the air intake of the new laptops so they knew it!
I used to be a loyal HP customer, printers, PC,s laptops and even my LCD TV is HP!!
Since this is a known problem and HP is not doing anything about it or taking care of their customers I have decided not buy HP anymore, I don't want to buy products that are not backed up by its brand.
We should probably get all those laptops together and ship them to HP's CEO office, if we can get enough of them (I'm sure we could) I will volunteer to ship them startight to his office!

Its too bad. The bios fix seems kinda silly, as it just kicks the fan into high gear. And yes, you could keep the screen open 2 inches, but eventually the overheating GPU is gonna fry the mobo.

HP... COME ON! Your company is better than this.
