HP Pavilion dv9700 should also be on the list - but it is not even with a NVIDIA 8600 GPU

HP Seriously needs to get their act together on this right now.  I was initially relieved to find they had RECOGNIZED this issue from their Limited Warranty Service Enhancement, then SUDDENLY APPALLED TO FIND MY MODEL DV9700 MODEL WAS NOT INCLUDED!!!!!!!!

WHAT IS NOT CRYSTAL CLEAR WITH HP??  THESE MOTHERBOARD/VIDEO CARD/POWERING OFF AND ON ISSUES ARE SYSTEMIC ON THESE DV9700 MODELS LIKE THE REST!!!!!  DV9700 SHOULD BE ON THE LIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forget HP Tech support, They are more like the GOON SQUAD Keeping the Enraged Villagers from Storming HP Castle.  HP ENGINEERS AND TECHNICIANS NEED TO READ UP ON THIS BOARD AND RIGHTFULLY RECOGNIZE THAT THESE HARDWARE ISSUES ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THE DV9700 Model AS WELL!!

OMG!  I have been going through the same bs with HP since September 9th.   Amazing.  My computer is also only 14 months old when the problem started.  What a crock.

mine just died tonight too (HPDV9700 CTO) ... sitting there doing nothing but printing, and it just turns black. I'm like wtf? so I pulled plug, took out battery, did the reset **bleep**, it started back up, lasted barely into the HP screen and off again ... yeah won't turn on period. this is rediculous that HP won't replace these laptops or extend the warranty, seriously? never buying from HP again...

about 18 months after I bought my hp dv9700 cto p.n.: GT811AV it started to swithing off itself (When I watch moovie, play even simple windows game and sometime just when Im surfing on the web). When I turn it on there is 4 gray screens squeezed horizontaly, one under another on the display. They apear stright away, when I turn my pc on, before it boots windows and of course all the time after. I tryed to uninstall nvidia driver in safe mode, it helped for the first time but when I installed it back, it crashed again. It started to happen more often and another uninstallation of drivers didnt help. I reinstalled all windows in hope it will be ok, but next day it happend again. it switch itself off and again 4 gray screens. I disabled nvidia in divice manager but I still have 4 gray screens (sometimes they are pink). I feel very disapointed I payd too much money for good computer that didnt last even 2 years?

I thought hp means quality for several years, but I am realising maybe not anymore. My boyfriend bought hp mini 2133 with suse linux. you would think that hp netbook will bring you highter quality then asus for example. but we were wrong. I looks like it was made just for image, but very cheep. he had to put vista on it because suse dont support the webcam. left ctrl is not working at all and speaker is "glued" very badly on it. after hours on the phone with hp support they provide us with recovery cds. It doesnt relates to graphic problem with dv9700 but it says something about a brand too.

Same thing happened to me yesterday.   I called HP support only to find out my dv9700 isn't on the recall list, even though it's obviously also affected by the same issues as those models that are included on the list.  They did give me the luxurious option of sending it in and getting it fixed for $400...thanks but no thanks.  Purchased it for about $1200 18 months ago...now I have a sweet $1200 paper weight.  I used to buy exclusively HP...no more.  Time to go back to Dell.  I'd like to think HP will do the right thing eventually...but based on what I've read on the forums and elsewhere online, I'm not holding my breath.

@Mira - Your problem is different from ours, although it seems obviously related to your video card as well.

Our screens go black and the computer won't even come on to show the Bios or Operating System.

I'm sure HP will tell you it'll be $400 to fix anyway.

Mira you are not alone. I have the exact same problem with mine and I was told that it was the graphics card embedded in the motherboard

Call support and ask for a Case Manager.  BE VERY PERSISTENT.  After being switched to 2 different people who kept trying to get me to download driver updates, AS IF THAT WOULD SOLVE ALL PROBLEMS...and explaining over and over again that I did not want help from their "tech" support, I was finally routed to a Case Manager.  The Case Manager understood my dilemma, and although I did not get the repair for free, I did manage to get it for 1/2 price plus a 1 year warranty.  First offer was $199 for the repair and 90 day warranty.   I expressed my very real concern that if the GPU problem occurred after 14 months, what good would 90 days do.   She offered the 1 year warranty, so basically I paid for an extended warranty of 1 year at $149 and $50 for the repair.   If the computer is eventually placed on a recall list, the $199 is suppose to be refunded.  For me, this was the only thing I could do.  I've already invested $1400 plus the money I put into the docking station and other stuff.    Good luck.

My DV9700 also had the motherboard/8600 independant video card die on me with in the first few months of my warranty and I had it repaired to only have it die again on me shortly after my 1 year warranty expired... I do not want to pay $400 repair to have the same parts added and it to fail on me again after a year.<text deleted>
