THE DV9500 with the 8600m gs GPU has the same problem. Fix the DV 9500 and the DV 9700's!

Please?

Re: HP Pavilion dv9700 should also be on the list - but it is not even with a NVIDIA 8600 GPU

Add me to the list.  My dv9702 died last night with exactly the same symptoms as described here:  Very hot, picture corrupted suddenly with horizontal lines, no display on reboot.  Bought it 18 months ago for £500 from PC World - they said they will repair it for £330.  I'd rather spend the money on a new laptop than pay that amount, only just to have it break again.  Phoned HP and just got an automated message telling me I had to pay £15 just to talk to a technician.  No thanks.  Emailed HP, no response so far.  I'm glad I'm not alone, but this is ridiculous.  The product clearly has a manufacturing defect for so many of us to be hit with the same problem at the same time.  What can we do about it though?  Probably not much.

Same problem with the dv9745el.

The HP service ask me 460 Euro to replace the motherboard (probably with the same faulty one).

It's not my first HP laptop and I felt happy with HP products till yesterday, when my screen became black, then gray, then few colored lines appered.

I will never buy HP products if my faulty MB will not be replaced for free.

Re: HP Pavilion dv9700 should also be on the list - but it is not even with a NVIDIA 8600 GPU

My dv9700t CTO with NVIDIA 8600M GS 512MB RAM GPU started to fail on 9/30/2009, after just 18 months of use.  It froze while watching some recorded TV and wouldn't boot except into safe mode.  I did system restore on it and it could then boot, but after about 30 minutes of being on, the graphics driver would crash/recover and finally freeze and not boot.

Luckily I purchased it with American Express which extends the warranty from 1yr to 2yrs, and it is being repaired without cost to me, but I am worried the new motherboard will develop the same problem.

What a pain!

Re: HP Pavilion dv9700 should also be on the list - but it is not even with a NVIDIA 8600 GPU

My DV9700  Its about two years old and the screen finally went out for good.  Our external monitor works fine.

HP support told me to pay for an internal display cable to be replaced and that should fix the problem (apparently the display cable is wrapped in tape and to close to the  area over the heatsink, which is making it fail)   This is a design problem and this HP model should be on the recall list!!!!!!  We purchased it at COSTCO and I am going to complain to them.

Until this unit is recalled,  my recommendation is to not purchase HP consumer laptop products.  This is not the first problem we have had with this computer.

Re: HP Pavilion dv9700 should also be on the list - but it is not even with a NVIDIA 8600 GPU

10 October, my dv9700 suddenly froze during a game.  The graphics appeared to be smeared across the screen.  I received the BSoD, my system crashed, and the video card hasn’t worked since.  I tried everything; used a restore point, restored the PC to factory settings, updated the drivers, updated the driver with a previous version, and flashed the BIOS.  Nothing worked.  I searched for a solution online only to find my situation is not unique.  Other HP customers were experiencing the same problem with similar (if not, identical) systems.  This is obviously a manufacturing defect.  I called HP Customer Service and spent the first ten minutes convincing the operator not to charge me for the call as my warranty had expired in May 2009.  (Since when are customers required to pay businesses to continue to care?)   She told me HP would not be repairing my particular model.  The operator established a “case file” and agreed to contact me via email as soon as HP agrees to fix my computer.  Now I’m a fair guy and a loyal HP customer.  If HP fixes this problem I’m willing to forgive and forget.  If they don’t, I never purchase another HP product again.

Re: HP Pavilion dv9700 should also be on the list - but it is not even with a NVIDIA 8600 GPU

This is like a science fiction movie...all these computers failing at the same time...

I suggest a phone in where everyone affected calls to explain that it is not acceptable to not fix this for all who need it rather than some list made months ago...

they need to acknowledge this reality...

Perhaps we could coordinate when we'd phone...

there are 1 800 numbers...

monday morning 10 a.m.?

"how many people do we need to get HP's attention"

Just a guess but it probably needs to be a good percentage (in the view of HP) of the total number of computers with the Nvidia 86 series GPUs. The problems with that are that the HP production figures are unknown (to the public at least), and that reaching the magic percentage will be hard becasue it can be anything HP wants it to be.
