Re: HP Pavilion dv9700 should also be on the list - but it is not even with a NVIDIA 8600 GPU

You can add me to the list of those that has had their dv9700t crap out on them.  The laptop was always hot, never thought much about it because I just assumed all laptops were hot.  I purchased a cooling pad just to keep the heat off my leg.  Anyway, a few weeks ago my computer freezes in the middle of playing a game, and I have to do a hard restart.  The white HP logo on the startup screen now has red vertical lines running through it.  Several system restores later (and paying HP $10+ s/h because the system restore discs were known to be faulty and my warranty had expired - go figure)  we finally get it running again, only for it to crash again 15 minutes later.  The only reason why this POS laptop works at all is because I was able to roll the video card back to the standard VGA.

Basically, after reading everything everyone else has had to say, I'm up a creek - there is no way in hell I'm paying HP $400 just to put the same faulty components back into this system just so I can go through the same problems a year from now.  I'd rather use that $400 to take a hefty chunk out of the cost of a new laptop.  And, considering HP refuses to work with their customers in resolving the problem of what is commonly known to be defective hardware, that new laptop will likely not have an HP logo on it.  It's just too bad - this was an awesome machine, especially for the price.  Unfortunately, HP isn't going to do anything to make sure I continue using it.

HP Pavilion dv9700 Geforce 8600 failed twice in 5 months.

I have the same story as most people.  My computer always ran hot.  It died in May just over a year after purchase. The screen froze so I had to reset.  When it comes back on there are multiple colored lines running through the screen.  If I started a video or a game it would freeze.  Eventually the screen would not come back at all.  Took it to a local place to get it fixed.  They told me that it was a system defect.  Coincidentally there was another person there at the time returning an HP for another known WIFI problem.  I paid $250 to get it fixed but they told me it would probably fail within a year.  5 months later it did.  The screen froze with red colored lines running through it.  Then I Googled "HP dv9000 heat problems" and found this forum.  Considering how often HP recommends I download some random update and they never told me about this known problem I am puzzled.  I will call HP tomorrow and see if they have changed their policy on replacing the defective part with another defective part.  I have had HP's all my life but if this does not get resolved I will not buy one again.  Hopefully after 91 posts someone is listening.

Re: HP Pavilion dv9700 should also be on the list - but it is not even with a NVIDIA 8600 GPU

I agree with you 100%.

I too have issues with my DV9700 [9820ea) 2 weeks in and i had issues that neither HP nor Comet Uk would replace, my only option was to have a 2 week old laptop sent away for repair. Now 18 months in the issues are becoming unbearable and for a so called professional product the service is shocking. I think that if any product fails and the company acknowledges its a hardware issue then the shop selling the items should be forced by the manufacturer to replace the item over the counter.

I am now saving for a new laptop and i just hope that this one lasts until i can save...shocking service and given we are in the market for 2 new laptops for the kids for xmas and i need a replacement i am thinking strongly that none of them will be HP..!!

All the new BIOS driver will do is tell your system to run its fan faster and continuously.  It may prevent damage, more usually all it does is delay it until your warranty expires.  If the damage is already done (as in, you're already experiencing video problems), the updated BIOS does absolutely nothing for you.

Re: HP Pavilion dv9700 should also be on the list - but it is not even with a NVIDIA 8600 GPU

For those of you (like me) that did purchase your dv9700 on the HP site as a customized order - anyone else remember that one of the very few things that we weren't allowed to customize was the motherboard with the nVidia GeForce 8600m GS?  In other words, we were required to have defective components in our customized system, but one of the reasons why HP won't fix our system now is because our system is customized, even though it was the standard part that failed.  How brilliant is that?

Re: HP Pavilion dv9700 should also be on the list - but it is not even with a NVIDIA 8600 GPU

This is so infuriating. I still can't believe that so many people are having this problem and HP refuses to acknowledge it. All they said was that if enough people reported it it would get added to the list, but they made it sound like I was the only one that has ever had problems with this laptop. I paid them $400 to "fix" it, but I hope I can get that refunded eventually. It would be nice if it comes before this laptop breaks again, so that I can use the refund to buy a Lenovo.

Re: HP Pavilion dv9700 should also be on the list - but it is not even with a NVIDIA 8600 GPU

MY DV2700 is having similar problem.

I have talked to HP supports and my case manager says pretty much the same thing; they will not do anything

because the problem is unknown to them.

but it seems like many people are having same problems and have complained to them, I wonder why it's still unknown to them.

my warranty is about 6 months passed.

oh yeah, and they will not check the computer, they expect me to give them  my credit card info. and charge me however they want.

I asked about this to my case manager, and that's pretty much what she said.

they will not even just look at my laptop, even if I pay for shipping.
