HP laptop.How do i disable Switchable Graphics? Cant update ati drivers!

Hello

My graphics drivers for my ATI Mobility Radeon 5470 are 11 months out of date and i desperately need to update them but the ATI drivers are NOT compatible with Switchable Graphics systems!

I do not use the intergrated intel graphics card so how can i completly disable it and only ever use the ATI card so that i can update the driver?

Ive already ticked off the box to automatically choose. And i have the radeon selected at all times. 

I also went into BIOS but i couldnt find anything about the graphics cards..

Please help? The main reason i bought my HP Pavilion DV6 3044sa was for certain things and im unable to use them because my radeon drivers are so out of date!

According to ATI.. its up to HP to provide me with the latest drivers for my mobility radeon because of the switchable graphics?

Yes even I've got the same problem. I have an HP Pavilion dv6-3110se notebook PC and I can't update my graphic card which is ati mobility radeon hd 5470. When I try to update it off ati's website they say that my graphic hardware is not supported and that I've to get the drivers from the manufacturer's website. In HP's website they only hav an old driver version:8.771. But the latest one is 8.8. I have sent an email to hp and I have not got any reply until now.

I know how to update the Catalyst Control Center but not the graphics driver. If I come across anything I will let you know.

FINALLY FOUND A SOLUTION.

OK so when you download the ATI card drivers they are typically stored in a folder known as: C:\ATI\Support\(whatever the version number of it is)

What you must do is go to that directory, for me mine was:

C:\ATI\Support\11-5_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl\

When you run the setup.exe in that folder it claims you need updates from HP, HOWEVER if you go into another folder in that same directory (for me it was called BIN64, you will find ANOTHER setup.exe. (Make sure your ATI HD card is the one running at this point in time and then) Run that setup.exe! It will run as normal and install the new drivers. (This is due to the fact that it "sees" ONLY the ATI HD card running as the primary and assumes it is OK to install the drivers.)

Issues: The only issue that happened for me was the laptop monitor shutoff while it was installing the display driver. I gave it a few minutes to "install the driver in the background" while my screen was black. Forced my computer to shut down via power button, restarted it that way, went into DXDIAG to check to see what my ati card's version number was, and it was UP TO DATE!

Hope this helps a ton of people. This issue is very frustrating I know but this method should work!

On a side note my laptop is/has:

HP Pavilion dv7t 4000 series.

Graphics Card is in the 5600 series. (Second is the crappy INTEL HD card.)

Running Windows 7, 64bit.

One more thing, this ONLY updates the ATI HD card (obviously does nothing to the INTEL HD card) but with this method, switchable graphics still works.
