I purchased a new HP Pavilion dm4. 1160US in April 2011. It has now developed a crack in the screen despite very gentle use. You, HP, are insisting it is due to customer damage. It is not!
After only 6 months use, I have absolutely no doubt this is a manufacturer's defect.
Let's not forget that laptop computers are, in fact, portable devices.
I used its predecessor, a Dell Latitude laptop for 8 years, without this type of problem.
Keep in mind that a company that doesn't stand behind its products ends up with no customers -- look where it got General Motors.
Toyota tried to blame its customers too -- and provoked a congressional inquiry.
By the way, I proudly bought my first slide rule from HP in 1968. I'm sure Bill Hewlitt and Dave Packard are turning over in their graves with what you've done to their great company!
SHAME ON YOU HP!!
I'll fix this one myself, thank you...
You've lost this customer for good... but of course I'm sure you couldn't care less!

ATTENTION:
EVERYONE WHO'S SCREEN CRACKED UNDER WARRANTY, (whether it's under Manufacturer's Warranty or Extended Warranty) AND HP REFUSES TO COVER IT!!!
We all have experienced THIS SAME PROBLEM. It is DOCUMENTED HERE OVER AND OVER and HP REFUSES to acknowledge they have a MANUFACTURING DEFECT. HP want to charge us for a new screen to repair it.
There are other Blogs out there about the same problem.
I FOUGHT THEM with MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY. THEY RETURNED THE PRICE OF THE REPAIR.
IF YOU BOUGHT YOUR HP NOTEBOOK WITH A CREDIT CARD (always a GOOD IDEA), the credit card
GOES TO BAT FOR YOU! If you haven't had it repaired yet, DISPUTE THE FULL PRICE OF THE NOTEBOOK. The BANKS ARE BIGGER THAN HP.

FIGHT THEM WITH THE STORE YOU BOUGHT IT AT AND/OR YOUR CREDIT CARD, IF YOU USED ONE.
I DID AND GOT MY MONEY BACK!
MAYBE IF IT HURTS HP'S POCKET, THEY'LL SIT UP AND TAKE NOTICE!!!

I will dispute the purchase on my American Express card, but its been 6 months so I am not optimistic about prevailing.
A new screen can be had online for about $75 so I'll fix it myself.
Its very frustrating to deal with a megacorporation that refuses to acknowledge a legitimate problem with its product.
That's what happens when a company gets too big - no one is accountable for its actions. At least you know that Michael Dell has a stake in Dell's reputation.

It shouldn't matter that it's been 6 months! If it was under Warranty when you brought it to their attention and they want you to pay, DISPUTE the charge on your card. COPY & PASTE all the blogs that show HP's lack of concern for this RECURRING MANUFACTURING DEFECT, and send that along.
Amex is pretty good for standing by the Consumer.

I'm not surprised. I NEVER got any satisfaction from HP.....THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS & THE PRODUCTS ARE NOT OF GOOD QUALITY. I, and everyone I tell about this, will NEVER buy another HP product & in the past I had bought my printers, etc. from the.....this was my first HP laptop.....never had any problems with my quite old Dell. This definately is shoddy workmanship. My laptop never moved off my table & somehow the screen broke. I am 53 so there is no question of where it's been & what it had been thru. It's just not quality. My question was that it may have broken during shipment to HP, but it had messed up prior. I just don't think they build a good product & they certainly don't warranty their workmanship. NEVER BUY HP!!!! Good luck...they did NOTHING for me.

i purchased my Pavilion DV laptop last month, never been dropped always is secure on a desk here at home, i have no kids, i used my pc about 3 hours ago, and turned it off, when i went to open it, and turned it on to my surprise top right corner has a crack with black stuff around it, i turn the computer off, and looked at the screen no crack visible, so i know its from the inside, after i powered back on i did a yahoo search to find out if anyone has had this problem and i found this thread. i called tech support and they are insisting that i caused this damage, i have 3 other laptops here "sir" i know how to handle them, they told me that i would have to pay to have them replace the screen, i found this crazy being that i just purchsed the laptop less than a month ago, and after reading all of your post here, its clear that it is product defect, im saying this now, and hp if you want to come after me, BRING IT ON, i will be going to my bank tomorrow and reporting this purchase as fraud, and my money will be returned to me. i asked teck support could i just return the pc, and they said no, we dont except damaged products. REALLY, WELL WHY ARE YOU SELLING DAMAGED PRODUCTS. I SPENT OVER 1200 on this pc, being that i upgraded the processor and ram, not to mention i was supposed to get a free xbox with the purchase and never recieved it. i have over 5000 subs on youtube hp, i have no problem with doing a rant against you guys, and to top it of the stupid pc is still under warrenty, this is fraud and ontop of doing my rant video HP i will be kindly reporting you to BBB and FTC. report all your purchases if done with credit card to your banks as fraud!
