Re: Hp HDX16 Problem

The backlight is the actual fluorescent tubes.  There are 2 of them inside the LCD Panel.  Yo ucan buy them at:

http://www.ccflwarehouse.com/

You need the 358mm ones.  Opening up the LCD panel is a very, very painful process.  You might not be able to put it back together.  If you want to open it, once you take out the metal frame, flip it whole stack of panels over so you don't have dust go under the top panel.

You need to have good soldering skills and delicate hand as the tubes are very thin.

My suggestion is try to unplug one of the backlight connector to the inverter and se eif it works even though it might not be as bright.  If unplugging one does help try to alternate.  My coworker and I found that for my laptop only one of the tube failed but it causes both tubes to not light up.

the reason I believe that one connector works because I used a separate LCD panel from a Toshiba laptop and it only has one backlight.  I connected that to my laptop's inverter and it worked.

Good luck!

BTW, this is the video cable:

Thanks for the info on the HDX tuxhdx16, saves me from more typing. :smileyhappy:

Here is better source for the cable, I have dealt with these people before and they are reliable and they have free shipping.

I have to say that almost 100 bucks for a used cable is outrageous, I think if you looked around you could buy a new one for that price.

 http://www.pchub.com/uph/laptop/364-52376-12468/HP-HDX-X16-Series-LCD-Cable-16-.html

 Here's a new one, it's almost 30 dollars cheaper.

I think some of these sellers on e-bay need a reality check ! :smileyfrustrated:

Sometimes buying a new cable is better as you never know how many miles are on a used cable.

Here is an interesting alternative to all of this a, LED screen. The seller claims to have a conversion cable to make this work. I am also going to assume that it utilizes the original cable as well.

I also contacted the seller to ask if I could see the instructions and he refused, he wanted me to buy the screen.

Proceed with caution here, going from a CCFL system to LED may not be possible as the seller would like you to believe. Also note that this is a 1366 x 768 so you will be down-grading fro 1920 x 1080. You will probably not notice the difference, but I thought I would point it out.

Re: Hp HDX16 Problem

Thanks to both of you. I don't think I can work on this. Looks complicated :smileysad:

Anyway, for the time being I'll use external monitor and will fix it later on. (probably will replace whole screen)

Semdgw, I believe your problem is a pinched cable along the left side of the screen. I just replaced one of those in the same model this week. I ordered the cable from China off eBay for $15.99 and $2.99 out of country shipping.

Sorry for the position of this post. I started reading this thread and decided to answer the first comment I saw from Semdgw. Once I saw that it goes to the last entry I realized the group has already come to this conclusion for some. I now know to read long threads to the end before answering.

Re: Hp HDX16 Problem

Hello there!

I think I'm going to buy a new lcd screen, my actual lcd screen "flickers" all the time since 2010, I almost got 2 years with this problem, I bought a new Motherboard and it didnt work, it seems to be a "backlight issue" so I prefer to change it for a brand new screen.... the only way I worked fine is with an external monitor via HDMI.... I only have 2 questions, so anyone help me please with this:

1. Mi actual screen resolution is 1366 x 768 max, if I buy a FULL HD "1920 x 1080" screen... will it work? do i need anything else to upgrade any cable or else? or just buying the new full hd screen system will work for me?

2. Where could I found it at a low cost? I'm from Mexico City, so I dont wanna expend a lot...you know the shippment and stuff..... please help with some links or URL's from trusted sellers....

Regards...

David N.

You're running a NVIDIA GT9600 M so the 1920 X 1080p should work in there and you should be able to just install it with out any new cable. You will have to update your driver ounce the new screen is in.

A word of caution, you notice I used the word "should" _ the GT9600M will support an external monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080p, but whether or not it will support an external monitor is another thing, but in theory it should not make any difference.

Here are some from e-bay, there are some sellers that ship worldwide.

 http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=HP+HDX+16+screen&_sacat=0

My big concern is how many backlights you're running and there is no way of knowing until you get it apart.

If you have a dual backlight system there will be 4 wires coming out of the bottom of the screen, a red and white wire for one lamp & black and blue for the other. If it has a single lamp there will be only two wires.

Also consider replacing the inverter when the screen is replaced, that way the new lamps get a good source of high voltage to fire the

lamp(s).

Re: Hp HDX16 Problem

Thanks for the quick response HAggisCat!

My laptop has a "dual lamp system", I suppose that the flickering is related to one of these lamps, because I can actually see the image, but with a very low brightness like a 10% or 20% of the 100%.... also an intermitent flickering....

I have a few questions about the inverter:

Do I need to replace the inverter too? isnt it included when I buy a new screen? do you mean "replacing the inverter" for an exact copy of the one I already have? or I need to replace for a "newer" model of inverter for a FULL HD Screen?

Thanks a lot por the quick response!!

KUDOS to you!

Unless the seller specifies it, the screens don't come with an inverter.

 http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=HP+HDX+16+Inverter&_sacat=0

If you can see your screen and it's just dim, you may want to try the inverter first as the screens on the HDX series are not easy to get out.

Any inverter will work as long as it's for the dual lamp arrangement. The resolution of the screen has nothing to do with the back-light system. In other words the one for the 768 x 1366 will work for the 1920 x 1080, it makes no difference.

The screens on the HDX models are held in there with this industrial two sided sticky tape. I have used a very hot hair dryer (not a heat gun) to soften the adhesive and carefully pry of the plastic cover in front of the screen starting with one of the top corners.

Another user worked a piece of dental floss in there and gradually worked it around to break the seal.
