Laptop pavillion dv5 glossy display is too reflective!

I have an older zv5000 laptop that looks sharper than my new pavillion dv5 and the glossy screen reflects everything - good for watching your back, but not for reading your screen!  Anyone have a suggestion or two.  Can you recover or uncover the screen? Is there some sort of angle adjustment on the screen?

Or is it just mute? ....

Thanks for any help,

Re: Laptop pavillion dv5 glossy display is too reflective!

The glossy screen can be troublesome at times, really not much can be done about it. If your experiencing too much glare try just tilting the screen a little and it should help a little, my other suggestion is to run at maximum brightness on the screen, while this can make the battery drain much quicker it does help with reading the screen. I had alot of trouble adjusting to the glossy screen on my old Dv9000, but after awhile you will stop noticing it, just takes some getting used to.

thanks Jedan - that's what I thought would be the case...

And yet still, my older laptop looks so much sharper and vibrant.... HP should take note, maybe I can post a side by side picture?

Re: Laptop pavillion dv5 glossy display is too reflective!

I also have a glossy brightview screen on my HP dv5t laptop.  I find that the glare on this screen is very bad.  When there is any light behind me, it is extremely hard to see what's on the screen.  I thought this was an anti-reflective screen. Sometimes it's so bad when I'm using the laptop that I need to close all the blinds behind me.  I happen to live in a house with a lot of windows and natural sunlight and this makes it very hard with this new laptop.  I feel like its almost a mirror during the daytime.  And you can forget about using the laptop outdoors.

Re: Laptop pavillion dv5 glossy display is too reflective!

there are some antireflective screens(mostly used for privacy or to avoid prying eyes)the i ve found work quiet well for this purpouse ,the only catch is that most are for the 4:3 screen ratio,o got one for a 19 inch monitor then i cut it to fit my 17 inch widescreen display,at least it is a viable option, befor i do this i was looking for a compatible replacement mate screen but it cost about $350us at the time.

Re: Laptop pavillion dv5 glossy display is too reflective!

Fredo that is a very good tip, although it does raise 2 concerns from me. One being that in order to use your laptop now you have to be looking strait at your screen or else that privacy thing will keep you from seeing anything, Two being that if you find that its not something you want is it easy to remove from the screen? or will it leave a ton of gunk behind on the surface? I personally have never used one of those filters but have concidered buying them once or twice. Deffinatly think its a good idea though, could solve any glare issuses.

Re: Laptop pavillion dv5 glossy display is too reflective!

the one i bought about 6 years ago was a thin plastic like sheet, and it self "adhere" to the screen and was easily removable,if you are directly on front of your laptop screen u wont get any problem with it (at least in my experience ,your mileage may vary),and it does not interfere (the lid closes ok ),only if sombody is at your shoulders height the will see a dark screen ,but i remembrer there were various "levels" of angled privacy, and yes it takes the annoying glare out by large,u may notice a small decrease in brightness but it depends on the specific displays you have.If u found one please tell us cuz i been looking for another one to use on my wife laptop a 15.4 widescreen...im wondering why nobody has don it before they will sell like bread.

Thanks - I think the privacy screen is probably the way to go.  I bet OfficeMax has one.....

Re: Laptop pavillion dv5 glossy display is too reflective!

I had to return my HDX-16. The screen was just too reflective. With many windows in the house and in the office, it was just too distracting.

I'm not sure why HP doesn't offer a non-reflective screen. For example, when you frame a picture for a wall, it makes all difference to get the non-reflective glass.

I really don't want to buy an expensive laptop and have to rig some non-glare or security screen accessory to solve a problem which should have been addressed in the orginal design.

Does HP sell any laptops without that highly reflective screen?
