Massive problems dv7-1285dx laptop

Just bought this laptop 4 days ago from Best Buy and i'm having major issues. First off with the vista OS that came w/ the laptop I was getting excellent frame rates in games such as Counter Strike: Source, but every 4 seconds or so my frames would drop down to about 10 for just a split second. They ran great but that little hitch made games unplayable. I tested 3 games and they all did the same. So then i tried to put windows XP on here and I got a blue screen while the cd was loading up. Put the cd in a computer nearby and it worked fine. So I downloaded Windows 7 64 bit and it loaded up, everything runs great but the games still do the same thing. So far i've tried the video drivers from hp's site for this laptop, the ones from Nvidia's website, and some other ones i found through google. All do the same thing. Could this maybe be a HD issue? I don't understand it and i really want to keep this laptop so someone please help .

Can you please let us know what graphics card option you have?

Hello, I have same problem:

The windows xp CD launch a excepcion, but I know what is the problem, we need the drivers of the HDD precharged in the cd or diskete usb, any people know of this???

Hi My laptop hp dv7 1285dx is giving insane problems... blue screens a dime a dozen... ive had problems since the first week i bought it... it always ask me to run DISK CHECK and it pisses me off, because im not sure if it came with a warranty... it cost 1200 at bestbuy... gosh mein i dont even kno how to fix it... i keep sending it over and over and over to different technitions and it keeps coming back... i dont know what to do and frequently im not pleased at all with the product... im really disappointed... i only enjoyed it about the first 7 days, then it went down hill from there..., this says its a gaming computer!!! but hell no, my display screen always gives me problems... what can i do and how can u check if i have a warranty... help me plz!!!

I've had similar problems.

1. I've tried several times to create a rescue disk and every time it fails. So I bought the set from HP.

2. I've had issues with the Wireless LAN not working properly

3. When I connect the computer to my Expansion Base thig go crazy.

I've resorted to buying the Vista 64 bit version and downloading the HP drivers in hopes of curing the problems, maybe getting RID of all the CRAP programs that are included with the HP system will solve the problem.
