Max resolution you get on external monitor on mini 2140 (or any current hp netbook)?

Curious if anyone has been able to get any resolution greater than 1024x768 on any current HP netbook (especially the mini 2140) with any external monitor.

Symptoms:  can't get any resolution on an external monitor that is greater than 1024x768 even with ONLY an external monitor enabled (and the internal LCD panel shut off).

Tried: 2 intel drivers plus reinstalling the current HP driver. Tried on 3 monitors that all have native resolutions greater than this (1280x1024). Tried changing the monitor driver. Tried "Monitor Asset Manager" (moninfo) which directly queries monitor hardware for its timings and modes: netbook does not even recognize external displays to get timings, but on both my other systems (desktop and 4-year-old non-HP notebook) the timings and plug and play features work perfectly.

Can anyone else do better with their HP netbook or is this simply a limitation of HPs shoddy implementation of the hardware or firmware?  The Intel graphics chipset itself will support better resolutions, by the way, according to their spec sheets.

I'm using a mini 1000 with the HP mini vga cable, running windows 7, and can get my native (42') plasma display resolution of 1366x780 with no problems.  in fact the picture looks great.  my only gripe is that the mini 1000 cpu isn't fantastic keeping up with some videos i've tested.

Hi, I had the same problem with two different Acer LCD monitors.. then I noticed that the VGA cable I was using was for some reason missing PIN 9. Just replaced the cable with another with all pins and now all resolutions work on both monitors! :smileyhappy:

you might need to buy the brodcom crystal hd video accelorator, for about $40-50. and upgrade your ram to 2gb if you havent done so already. should work great. youll be able to play 1080p on your mini 1000.
