New ATI 6770M Drivers for dv7

[ Edited ]

I was wondering if HP will be releasing an updated video driver package for the dv7 (Intel HD/Radeon 6770M) video configuration in the near future?  I am seeing some intermittent flickering and distortion on my display. With all the updates to various Web Browsers/Flash Players and other graphics intensive software I am thinking the video drivers might need to catch up to the newer software.

I haven't seen any updates at all for my dv7 since Nov 2011 and there are numerous updates on vendor websites but I prefer to stick with HP approved updates.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: New ATI 6770M Drivers for dv7

This has become a much more important question since it turns out that the existing drivers are not compatible with IE10 on Windows 7 final release.  Beyond that, it would help if when HP does release a new driver set (which I understand cover both ATI and Intel switchable) that they would test them before release.  My DV7 has the slightly older then the 'current' drivers and the newer one fails during the installation.  Note that I have the latest Jan 2013 bios for my DV7.

BTW, it's not MY contention that the drivers won't work with IE10; that comes from Microsoft and is discussed in a KB article on their site.

Re: New ATI 6770M Drivers for dv7

I am sure the IE10 issue is the tip of the iceberg where technology overcomes older, slower & OUTDATED products. Making an 18 month old product (dv7) unuseable with current software.

I do not beleive we are asking for too much here.

Re: New ATI 6770M Drivers for dv7

HP seems to have stopped providing software support for the DV7's except for updating old drivers to work with Windoze 8.  Same thing with bios updates.

Re: New ATI 6770M Drivers for dv7

These drivers have now been cited by Microsoft as being incompatible with IE10 for Windows 7.  Using them that way causes lots of neat BSOD's.  Same thing with a recent Windows 'Platform' update for Win 7.  So we really need HP to update them.

It is not an official solution it's just a workaround but seems hp is never going to update the driver ,have you tried this:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video-e-g-Windows-8/Driver-update/m-p/2493789#M645...

I can't get the old driver package to uninstall.  It breaks just after telling it to do so.

I dont think you should uninstall  the old driver , just run  http://www2.ati.com/Drivers/mobile/12-10_mobility_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql_net4.exe on top of hp drivers. But if something is corrupted

follow this guide:http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-drivers-software-forum/682746-best-video-driver-ati-6770-a.html

Re: New ATI 6770M Drivers for dv7

I finally got around the install and uninstall problems by following a piece of advice I found; the main HP installer always crashes once you choose install or uninstall.  Running atisetup.exe -uninstall or -install bypasses the badly broken shell and does the installation properly (though I wish I could see what was happening while it ran).  I did try also -output screen but got nothing for my efforts.

So now I'm up to the version from sp55092 HP download - 8.882.2.3000 from 9/30/2011.  Of course, this version does not support running IE10 under Win 7.

I would truly like to know why HP refuses to fix the shell that sits around atisetup.exe, and for that matter, why they refuse to give us newer ATI updates.  I'd also like to know when, if ever, ATI will fix their many year old TDR error that leads to so many BSOD's.

In the meantime, I'm going back into Configure Switchable Graphics and making sure that Chrome is not set to high performance (to avoid the tdr crashes).
