Re: New dv7-tqe 6100 CTO - Will Not Switch to ATI Graphics (6770M 2GB)

Yeah, I have to agree that I don't know about the resolution issue.  The Radeon GPU can certainly handle that resolution.  In fact, it's capable of resolutions up to 2560x1600.

The only two things that changed between my dv7tqe 6000 CTO models that switched perfectly and the dv7tqe 6100 CTO model that wouldn't switch even while attempting to run the Crisis SP demo were the graphics card (1GB 6770M upgraded to 2GB 6770M) and the display (upgraded to the Full HD Anti-Glare display).

I hope this gets resolved, but right now HP won't even acknowledge the issue is their fault.  You could say the problem might rest with AMD, but it's still HP's problem to support.  We still need more people being vocal here and on the phones to get their attention.

[ Edited ]

I just purchased an dv7- LM726AV with this graphics card.  I spent over 5 hours with Tech Support, they took remote control 3 times and failed solve anything.

I have used the joke email system "Contact the CEO" and no response (still I didn't expect to).

I copied and pasted a big section of this post to Tech Support via email.

I respectfully suggest we all keep bombarding them with complaints until some one at HP {Content Removed} fixes the issues.

I also hit the kudos button on every reply.

In all other respects I love this **bleep** thing.

I thought I'd just register to also comment on this issue. I have a 6100tx bought in China. We have exactly the same issue where the ATI card is not recognised by any monitoring software. However the switching does work for me when I play SC2 as the frame rates are about 100 at medium settings whereas the IGP hovers around 25.

But the thing is the ATI software is so poorly put together it's a pain in the ass to use. Plus I cant get any normal figures show up in monitoring software like GPUZ. If I stress test the card with Furmark it runs at like 4FPS which is just wrong. I also know from other owners that the switching wont recognize programs such as Minecraft and Second Life Viewer.

PLEASE HP...WHATEVER  IT IS THAT YOU NEED TO DO, YOU FIX IT OR ATI FIX IT...BUT YOUVE PUT TO MARKET A {Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion} LAPTOP THAT HAS CRIPPLED VGA SOFTWARE...GLOBALLY!!!

THE ONLY REASON I THINK MANY OF US HAVE BOUGHT THE 6100S IS BECAUSE OF THE 6770M GPU...OTHERWISE WE'D HAVE BOUGHT ANOTHER BRAND...THERE'S MANY LAPTOPS ON THE MARKET WITH SANDYBRIDGE SO PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF THE ALMIGHT FIX ONE OF THE MOST CRUCIAL COMPONENTS ON THIS LAPTOP!!!!!!!!!!

Re: New dv7-tqe 6100 CTO - Will Not Switch to ATI Graphics (6770M 2GB)

I have a dv6t 6100 quad edition with a 1gb 6770m card and the brightview display (1366x768).

I have the same issue as everyone else here, and thought I'd post about my experience with hp's online support.

Over the course of 2 hours, we tried flashing the BIOS, updating/reinstalling drivers, attempting to force the ATI card to be used through the BIOS, and reinstalling the OS. None of which worked, which after reading this thread was a predictable outcome.

Hopefully enough people will bring up this issue so that it will be fixed. But when you do talk to them about it, keep in mind that the support technician your talking to is not the engineer responsible for the problem. If you work with them, you will get through the possible fixes quicker than you will if you are yelling at them the entire time. And once you have exhausted the possible fixes, then the issue will be passed on to someone who can look at the physical computer to try to find the problem.

Re: New dv7-tqe 6100 CTO - Will Not Switch to ATI Graphics (6770M 2GB)

Thanks for the tip on looking at the HP Support Assistant>Troubleshoot>Graphics,Video and Display

By doing this I was able to convince them that it's not my 3rd party software, but their own factory install stuff. Everytime I go to this screen I hoped the Radeon 6770m would be highlighted, but it never happened. Yesterday was my last attempt on trying to figure this out. Spent another 3.5hrs w/ a good tech person actually even though it didn't help. Good luck everyone but I'm returning my laptop.

Hello,

Please try installing this driver that contains a different version of the Intel driver you are showing in your HPSA PIC.

It appears to be an older driver ( Intel ) and we can try this for troubleshooting purposes.

Please let us know what version of the ATI graphics driver and Intel SW you are currently running to show this problem.

Are you saying that you cannot get the ATI graphics to work at all?

Would like to see if after installing this driver you have the version of Intel graphics mention

ompatibility:Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)
Fix/Enhancement:- Provides Intel Graphics Driver version 8.15.10.2219 (in addition to the AMD Graphics Driver) to support the Intel GPU in notebooks with switchable graphics.

I can tell you right now, that driver will not work.   Already been down that road with tech support, more than a week ago.   That driver is the one that was on my earlier DV6, but it won't install on the newer units.

Re: New dv7-tqe 6100 CTO - Will Not Switch to ATI Graphics (6770M 2GB)

I have to agree with dave1812 here...We tried that as well.  I'm not sure WHY it didn't work, as it certainly makes sense that it should work.  The one thing I didn't try with a tech was a fresh install of Windows with this driver forced into place from the beginning.  It's possible the old (read: actually the most recent, horrible failure of a driver) is perhaps leaving traces behind.  I don't know...I can only say that solution didn't work.  Neither did the BIOS update.

I'm giving you kudos though, because in theory this should work but it hasn't in two cases now...Those who have not yet tried this, please do so and report your findings.  Thanks!

Re: New dv7-tqe 6100 CTO - Will Not Switch to ATI Graphics (6770M 2GB)

After talking to them more, and more, they have offered for me to return the laptop. The issue with that is i got a good deal on this one, and they will have to get a fix sometime, or pull the laptops from market completely.

They have offered to send a box to me, and i can send the laptop back to them for repair. They are sending the box, but I am not sure if I want to do that or not.

I have 21 days to return so I  will think about it.
