No HDMI w/ dv6-2151cl laptop and a HP 2311x monitor

I have a HP dv6-2151cl laptop and a HP 2311x monitor.  Both are equipped with HDMI.  When I connect a 19 pin HDMI cable between the two devices no video is sent to the monitor and the monitor shows a message to check video cable.  I have updated all drivers and bios and still get the same results.  However if I connect the laptop using the same cable to a sony bravia HDTV HDMI input all works well.  Any suggestions on how to get the HP laptop and HP monitor to work with HDMI .  BTW .. VGA works fine.

I went to a local store on Saturday to discuss this with a local HP Rep to see if they would have any suggestions but was not there.  Maybe next weekend.

Did you try the display switching function key on the laptop? That is a hardware override for display switching and it can muck things up when you plug in an external monitor. Also, make sure you are using the auto source switching in the monitor setup menu so it switches to whatever input it gets a signal from. Since the monitor has multiple inputs, you have to switch between them using the button on the monitor or you won't see anything if you aren't using the right input.
