My computer used to automatically detect external monitors, but for some reason when I try to use my HDMI port it doesn't work. I go into the settings menu and try to change the display monitor but it won't recognize anything hooked up to hdmi. The VGA port works just fine, but I need the high def that hdmi offers and can't figure out why it's not working anymore. I'm running Vista. Help me Obi Wan, you're my only hope.

Hi,
Have you read this this book
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02102005.pdf
and tried these steps:
1. First thing I would check: the cable itself, what is its HDMI version, you may need 1.3 or above ? What is your TV (brand, model) ?
2. Update video driver
3. With the right cable, please try these steps
(a) Turn OFF both TV and laptop
(b) Connect cable both ends
(c) Turn ON the TV, If required use TV menu to accept signals from PC (laptop) even using HDMI1/2/3 ...
(d) Turn ON the laptop, go to Display you should see TWO screens (1 and 2), select the TV

Same problem with mine... does not recognize hdmi tv automatically any more... I followed the instructions and only works some of the time... updated software, bios, you name it... I keep hitting the FN+f4 combo and at least I'm at the point where the laptop screen flashes when I do this.... tried different cables that work fine with everything else... the only thing I can do to get it to work is keep shutting down and rebooting and pray for the hdmi to kick in....
driving me nuts!
