1. Product Name and Number: Pavilion dv5-1004nr (p/n:FE765UA#ABA)
2. Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit)
4. Replaced display cable (493020-001) from base to display, inverter, and logo light.
About a couple of weeks ago, the screen would start flickering, and could sometimes be fixed if I re-angled the screen. The problem was getting worse to the point where it would turn off completely for long periods and I needed an external monitor.
I replaced the display cable and inverter with other used parts, and after a lot of trials, the purchased cable and original inverter ended up back in the laptop. It worked fine for a couple days.
Now, the backlight will randomly turn completely off for about a minute about every 10-30 minutes, and just now has turned off and hasn't turn on for at least 10 minutes. When I shine a flashlight at an angle into screen, I can still my desktop, and everything on an external monitor looks fine.
Any ideas?

Yes the issue does occur when I am in the BIOS, or any screen for that matter (HP logo, Vista boot screen, log in screen,...).
