Pavilion dv5 boots into windows but only displays a blue screen and the mouse cursor

My Pavilion dv5 notebook pc boots into windows but only displays a blue screen and the mouse cursor.

It still has Vista on it, but it won't boot into the OS anymore. I'm trying to reformat and install Win7 -- and it will boot to DVD and even load files -- but once files are loaded, it goes to the same empty screen with the mouse cursor.

I've tried using an external monitor, both VGA and HDMI, but no signal is received.

BIOS screens all show fine. Problem seems to occur as soons as Windows loads.

BIOS version is F.21.

try to boot the nb in safe mode than uninstall the display driver than restart the nb in normal mode

Thanks for the quick response Dhawalz. I thought of that, but I don't get a prompt to boot in Safe Mode, even if I choose F11 (System Recovery) in the Startup Menu. Is there a way to get to it that I'm missing?

here in this case u can try reseat the memory board(RAM)

did you try f8, if not you can try reinstalling the software via esc on boot, just do not allow the graphics driver to update.

Hi, I experience the same thing!!! can you please help me  how do you take out the RAM sofware thing. I don't know how. And what is the first thign  I do after I turn on my laptop ?  please help!!
