Hi,
There are dozens of ways but we need to konw your existing hardwae and software. What are they ? What is the format of your movie files ?
Normally, you just plug your external HDD to your machine and use software player on your machine to play.
Regards.

On my past computer it came with Cyberlink PowerDvd 10. That is how I was able to play movies from a hard drive. I downloaded a version of Cyberlink PowerDvd however it will not just play a movie but pull up clips or chapters and not the whole movie. I just thought my HP Pavilion dv7 would come with some type of software that would play these automatically like my other program.

Hi,
From time to time and depending on how vendors work together, new machines can have these, can have those .... I don't use their bloatware to play videos but use a free nice, light, free product called VLC. You may want to try from here
